Victory!

I didn't eat any of the office lunch today. It was fried chicken, BBQ chicken, mac N cheese, dirty rice, salad, and french bread.

Actually, I did nibble on the salad a bit.

They started a biggest loser at work with a $20.00 entry fee and $5.00 a week extra to the smallest loser each week.

I weighed in this morning. Some people waited until after lunch to boost their weight!!!

I wish I had weighed in on Monday. I would have an 8 pound lead.

2 more buckets of water are now gone. I've dropped 10 since Monday and I think the rest of the gain is probably solid. I've had 3 flawless days so I should be in Ketosis by now.

Holee Cow, 10 since Mon, thats crazy .

225/196/185

Broke through the 200 plateau that has been bugging me for about 2-3 wks. I think my Xmas gorges did me some good and caused some metabolic confusion. Last sat I had some carbs then back into low carb. Felt like I made the switch into ketosis on Tues and combined with some solid workouts I have busted the plateau Going to make a strong push no cheat weekend and maybe have some Gumbo while I watch LSU beat Bama, again

Stirring a little debate on the fasting, here's some info from the 'eat stop eat' book. Really interesting and I can provide details if you have questions.

In dozens of published peer reviewed scientific studies, short-term intermittent fasting has been found to have the following health benefits:

• Decreased body fat & body weight
• Maintenance of skeletal muscle mass
• Decreased blood glucose levels
• Decreased insulin levels & increased insulin sensitivity
• Increased lipolysis & fat oxidation
• Increased Uncoupling Protein 3 mRNA
• Increased norepinephrine & epinephrine levels
• Increased Glucagon levels
• Increased growth hormone levels.

What’s even more amazing is that many of the benefits were found after as little as 24 hours of fasting!

quote:

Now, since I had gained back a few of those 26 pounds I lost earlier this year I thought I’d give it try. So I have fasted for two 24 hour periods during the last four weeks. The results? I lost 4 kilos/9 pounds.

I did no cardio exercises – I usually do the bodyweight exercises from the Turbulence Training program – during these four weeks to see how much I could lose without that training. I did however do two 25 minute workouts with free weights per week to maintain my muscle mass and just lose the fat. I did not lose any strength during the four weeks.

LINK

You don't need to get the pdf; i've read it and essentially just stop eating for a single 24 hour period once a week.
the key is that 18-24 hour part of the 24 hours of fasting (see chart below)

thats it. you can do anything for 24 hours.

stick to your normal atkins routine and try this. i'm going to start doing it this week (actually i'm on my 24 hour 'break' as we speak) but all the reviews i've found on the web (and my own personal experience with fasting in the past) leads me to believe this is a good idea.

Thats interesting and definately worth a try. Its my understanding that also as you fast your body "digests" itself and may promote healing in areas that are having problems. I felt as though I was stuck at my last plateau and was limiting my calories more and more and still working out hard and my system stalled. Eating big over the holidays, or as your pointing out fasting, may have similar effects. Those are some pretty good numbers on lipolysis and insulin that you quoted. I will try this. Now that I am thinking about it, I actually did this the last time I did Atkins where I fasted for a day several times over a 2 or 3 mo period and it resulted in a noticeable loss.

exactly. i've done the same (but not in awhile) and noticed similar results.

the cool take-away from this is its not necessary to go longer than 24 hours on a fast. in fact, the fat burning flattens out significantly over days 2-4 so that 18-24 hour period is a key/crucial point where most fat (as opposed to water) is burned.

hold on; i've got a good chart showing water vs fat loss on a fast..uploading..

Any reason this bbq sauce wouldn't be allowed during induction? Cup mayo, cup mustard, 1 tbsp worchestershire, 1 tbsp pepper, 1 tbsp salt, 1.5 stick butter?

that bbq sauce would be okay. Worchestershirt has 2 or 3g carbs/serving though, so watch out for that.

Thats a pretty good low carb bbq sauce recipe. But like has been said.. KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Its so easy to ingest too many carbs in induction if you dont. But that recile is probably 3-4 carbs per serving. A serving would probanly be a tbsp

just trying to understand here

mayo- no carbs
mustard- no carbs
salt- no carbs
pepper- no carbs
butter- no carbs
worchestershire- 2 to 3 carbs in recipe

How would 1 tablespoon have 3-4 carbs if the whole recipe only contains 2-3 carbs??

Also weighed in again today 4 days in

350/342.5/250

total loss in 4 days 7.5 pounds!

I'm down 10 from my holiday high, but it appears the remaining 8 are composed of real fat gain.

323/173.2/165

I had another good day of skipping the grazing table at work.

Country

Not sure where Hulk was making his calculations. If W Sauce has 3 carbs then the most you would have is 3 if you ate the whole batch of BBQ sauce.

Just know this, if the carbs are less than 1 they can list zero. So some things you eat might have hidden carbs because they are allowed to list zero if it it under 1.

I've used W Sauce in induction. You just need to make sure your carb count is below 20.

For me, most days my carb count was well below 20.

Don't listen to anyone on the board but me.

Stay in induction as long as humanly possible. The largest weight gain is from induction. It can slow to a crawl during OWL or even gain as you add more carbs into your diet.

I find it much easier to just stick with induction.

It was a guesstimation based on
quote:

This.

For example, eggs are .3-.4 carbs/egg but because it's <.5 carbs/serving.

I'm not saying it's an exact science, but I would plan on ingesting 3-4g carbs per tbsp just to be on the safe side.

That's what I was thinking..if the 1 tbsp of worchestire was 2-3 carbs then you COULD technically eat the whole batch and only ingest 2-3 carbs, not per serving..

Thanks alot for the help guys...it has been kinda hard so far, but seeing instant results keeps the determination up!

Quick results are good, have you read Atkins book? If not do so, things will make more sense to you in regards to how the process works. Try to think of it as a lifestyle change and not a diet. Also if your not doing cardio workouts consider it, seems to help me and I feel alot better.Good Luck

MYTH & HULK;

as a follow-up to the fasting post; i will make this point: a 24-hour fast is very easy.

you eat around 5pm mon (for instance) and then drink water and dont eat until 5pm tues. done! you dont even technically 'skip' a day because you eat a nice meal both days; you're getting a good 8-10 hours 'free' just by starting out while you're sleeping. the dramatic 'fat burn' occurs from 11am-5pm the following day.

i'm just sayin'

oh 257/195/175

back down to pre-holiday weight of 195 and going to be pushing hard to get to 189 by end of jan. firing on all cylinders right now.
