Normally i'd wait a little longer to post a weight update but I was just so excited this morning. A 2lb drop from yesterday has put me under 130 and only 4.5 lbs from 125. If someone would have told me at the beginning of the summer that I would be back down to my high school weight range I would have never believed them. I didnt know I had it in me. Yay me

If I had 2 of-age girls at my house every night, I wouldn't be concentrating either

Live it up CAD. If you ask me, you're pretty much where you should be.

I'm pretty upset right now, we had a health fair at work and I got my blood work done. My Blood pressure was 138/72, choleserol is 202.. HDL 29, LDL 126. Granted I'm still obese, but I really thought it'd be better. Everything I've learned about Atkins and low carb eating has led me to believe that my HDL should be higher and LDL should be lower. I'm beginning to question whether or not I'm truly doing the right thing on a low carb diet. I feel much better and don't have to deal with my hypoglycemia, but if it's not good for my heart..

CAD, Myth, someone calm me down and stop me from overthinking this.

Do you have previous levels to measure those against?

Or is this the first time you've done this in years?

I think for most people low carb works with the blood work from everything I have seen but for some it doesn't.

As you said you are still about 300 pounds so expecting terrific things at that level is expecting a bit too much.

202 is just slightly higher than normal and at 300 pounds I imagine most doctors would be happy with that number.

My blood work was actually worse after Atkins which is staggering given that I used to eat fast food about 85 times a week and my home meals were worse than fast food.

At the end of the day, getting the weight off your body is far more important than temporary bloodwork numbers that you don't like.

Once you reach you ideal weight, you can change your diet to work on blood numbers but for now, it is far more important to get that weight off.

First time I've done it, ever since I was like 10.

You have no baseline then. Heck, your numbers could be 1000X better than they were 1 year ago.

Your blood pressure on the top number is a little high but that will come down as you lose more weight. Being 300, definitely keeps your BP up so that number will get better the lower you go.

Probable. It just scared me. Especially when I saw my blood pressure. My mom had hypertension, and 138/72 is pre-hypertension.

The truth is my family has a terrible, terrible history of heart health. My dad had 2 heart attacks at 40 (he was on Atkins for the first one) and he wasn't even overweight, but he did eat like crap and smoked. My grandpa had a heart attack at 55, and his dad had one at 50. Both my grandpa and my dad have had triple bypasses and multiple stints. Other side of my family had diabetes really badly.

138 is slightly high but heck when I started my diet my doctor just wanted to get my BP down to 140/90.

So being 138/72 at 300 pounds really isn't terrible. It needs work but it will come down on its own. 300 is still very hard on your heart so 138 really isn't as bad as you think given how much you weigh.

I guess what I'm seeing is just the results of my years and years of not caring about my own health. I never had bloodwork done because I never had insurance. It's really eye-opening to see these numbers and helps me realize just how unhealthy I am still, even after 8 months of dieting and 64 pounds lost.

I know what you are going through. I felt the same way when it took my BP forever to start coming down.

Some may disagree but getting the weight off is far more important than worrying about the cholesterol numbers.

Now if they were insanely high, that would be one thing, but at least the total cholesterol number is actually just a tad high. It won't take long to fix that number once you reach a better ideal weight.

I was pretty pissed when I got my blood work done because I was expecting great numbers and everything went in the wrong direction.

I decided losing the weight was much more important than worrying about the numbers.

That is true. It just makes me nervous because everything I've learned about low carb diets tells me that HDL goes up, LDL goes down. I don't have a baseline to go off of, that very well may have happened. I just don't like the numbers as they are. Triglycerides are 231, but I fully expected that to be high since I'm on a high fat diet.

One thing I don't get is that I've learned through Fat Head and other research and articles that HDL is raised through saturated fats..but they gave me this paper that says to CUT saturated fats, eat more unsaturated fats (nuts, avocado, flaxseed, fish), cook with olive oil (currently use butter).. All this would seemingly be the opposite of what I've learned. Then again, these things I've learned also say that the current "common knowledge" is basically wrong. So who knows.

I refuse to even post the number from this morning. I've had one bad day in the last week and yet I am once again up 10 pounds from the low.

I;m heading back to Atkins and this time I am dropping all the dam way to 155 so when I regain 10 pounds of water I am at 165.

So here comes the 150s.

dude just start doing some pushups and chinups and get your arse out on the bike more.

build up your muscle group and focus on your body fat %..forget the # on the scales at this point.

you are where you need to be ..a blank slate basically..splurge and buy a scale that calculates body fat % and start watching that number..especially after you start adding muscle.

forget the weight #, its all about the body fat for you now! the weight # was good to get you here but YOU'VE ARRIVED!!
