friends and I went to BWW.. I had the blazin' wings.
I have these at least 1-2 times per week when doing Atkins and they never seem to cause problems. The info I've found suggests that the Blazin', hot, medium, and mild sauces are fairly low-carb. The Wild sauce, which is my favorite is not so Atkins friendly. Obviously, the sweeter sauces should be avoided.

I truly want it. The problem is I truly want more options to eat too. I want to do a paleo diet. But I know that Atkins is what has been working for me so I need to stick with that. But I'm dreading going back into induction and being stuck eating the same god damn thing every god damn day. It's to the point that it's sickening being so repetitious.

Well I applaud you for having the will power for being able to stay on something like that for so long.
But that's the reason why you shouldn't go on fad diets. Just eat a lower calorie balanced diet and exercise like you have blue balls every day.

Sickening is good. It switches the mindset from living to eat to eating to live. Addicts brains are highly exciteable -- to get addictions under control, that exciteability needs to be squashed.
We have to try to end our love affair with food.

I will still contend that Atkins is not a "fad" diet. It's just not the mainstream diet. I still think it's the best option. I do contend, however, that Atkins isn't the most nutritionally balanced diet, either.
I promise you right now if I switch to weight watchers, I'm going to gain back 10-15 pounds of water weight alone. Plus I'm hypoglycemic and my blood sugar goes all over the place. I tried it already and it was a very unsuccessful attempt. I don't want to go back to a carbo-diet. I just want more options. I want to be able to eat hummus, fruits, etc. A coworker of mine is on a paleo diet and works out at Crossfit and has lost 55 pounds in 4 months doing so. Yet in my 6 months of Atkins (with the last 1 or 2 months including plenty of exercise) I've only gotten 60 down, and the last 15 or so have been a downright struggle.
I'm feeling deflated and defeated. All this willpower I'm putting in and not getting much out is wearing me down. Losing weight was keeping me happy; now that I'm struggling it's just infuriating me. My best friend Megan has lost 50 pounds in 5 months too, and all she did was cut back and exercise. I go on this crazy strict diet, lose 45 or 50 in 4 months, and then go from this rapid weight loss to a snail's pace and lose 15 in 4.
I know the rebuttal will be "Well, you haven't been very disciplined lately." And I'm going to say with the exception of maybe a month or so now, I'd call your bull. Then again, since I don't log everything and display it for everyone, people are quick to assume that I am cheating (since the weight loss is so slow, naturally I'm cheating, right?).
I don't know guys. I'm not quitting, that's not an option. I'm going to keep plugging away at it. But I just want to keep an open mind and ears, and I'll hope that the snail's pace picks up.

I disagree. I love to cook and cook well. Yeah, I love to eat too. I don't want to NOT love to do those things. I want to learn how to control my eating, mostly portions. And I have. I chose to eat the apples, I chose to eat the BWW wings (which are low carb, atkins friendly. Their knock is sodium). Food doesn't have this mystical hold over me anymore other than that I'm restricted to eating the same shite every day. Grilled chicken breast. Grilled pork chop. Hamburger patty. Hamburger patty. Grilled pork chop. Hamburger patty. Grilled chicken breast. Meatloaf. Grilled chicken breast. Hamburger patty. Grilled pork chop. All of this with a cup of the same salad... every day!
Myth, I don't know how you have kept at that for as long as you have.

not sure if serious or you're just trying to troll.
this is such bad advice. no, i take that back. this advice is good if you're at your ideal weight and trying to maintain. as a technique to lose weight, its horrible.
i want to point out something. i weighed 190 in april 2011 when i started hardcore racing. since then i've climbed 159,835 feet and ridden my bicycle over 5,000 miles.
my weight this morning is 193 (and thats only after i fasted).
its ridiculous to make a coorelation between 'working out' and weightloss. the amount of calories burned is negligible and the weight gain (yes, i said it..'gain') that can come from that far outweighs any percieved benefit of 'new muscle growth'.
i haven't pigged out once since i started racing. however i'm eating out at quiznoes, applebees, etc while i'm on the road and yet this ridiculous amount of exercie (i guarantee you nobody on this board is working out 'blue balls' like i have this year) has done virtually nothing except make me strong and fast in bike races.
so please stop giving advice about something you clearly dont understand.
fad diet, etcl whatever it takes to get the weight off is fine. the point is you're screwing with your body to coax it into dropping pounds.
all hard exercise is going to do is get you used to eating more..then if you have an injury or lack the time to keep that up..watch the pounds add up like crazy.
again :casty:

the miles are actually not that big of a deal. the big deal is the climbing..that is hard.

This is why I switch my diet up occasionally. It hasn't hurt me, and actually, I get a boost each time I switch. I was afraid leaving Atkins and going to WW would cause a gain, but I continued losing. However, I realize everyone is different. Hell, Myth adds a bean or two and gains weight.
I just love variety and never want to look at any food as something I need to avoid for the rest of my life.
By the way, I know I said I wouldn't post my weight again until the first # was a 1, but I was 200.0 this morning. I weighed 3 times hoping it would fall to 199.9.

Thanks for writing an essay on the subject. Apparently your reading comprehension is awful.

statements like this i have a problem with. a little exercise is a great way to improve health markers while you're trying to lose weight..but ALOT of exercise will be detrimental to your objective. it will just make you hungry resulting in a tendency to overeat and nobody can typically maintain hard (or long) workouts over time.

that's the reason why you shouldn't go on fad diets.
atkins isn't a fad; its getting people to think about WHAT TYPE of calories they're consuming (simple carbs/sugar vs. healthier fats and protein). its a TOOL to lose weight. standing on your head while eating nothing but strawberries could be a tool if you're losing weight while doing it.
the point is you're putting your body into an unbalanced state..it doesnt like it..so whether you call it a 'fad' or 'gimmick' who the hell cares?? you're doing this to get to a point where you're comfortable at your weight. all these are 'tricks' to get you to lose weight; WW, atkins, paleo, etc etc. you can't lose weight without some kind of 'gimmick' that will keep you motivated to your goal.
quote:
ust eat a lower calorie balanced diet
waht does that even mean? all calories are not created equal. read a few articles by personal trainers about people eating a crappy 1200 calories a day vs. people eating a BETTER QUALITY 1200 calories a day and how it affects their body's ability to lose.
there's way more to it than just a calorie is a calorie. you have to look at the science behind how your body processes different 'calories' (ie food)

Here's a decent article regarding diet and exercise myths. It's from LewRockwell.com and I'm a crazy libertarian so it makes sense I would find it there.

Myth – All calories are equal, so it doesn't matter what you eat
Some foods take more work to eat, and therefore burn more calories while you're digesting them. Eating vegetables and lean cuts of meat can increase your calorie burn by up to 30 percent.
Myth – Eating fat will make you fat
Getting enough of the right kinds of fat in your diet is actually essential for good health.
