statements like this i have a problem with. a little exercise is a great way to improve health markers while you're trying to lose weight..but ALOT of exercise will be detrimental to your objective. it will just make you hungry resulting in a tendency to overeat and nobody can typically maintain hard (or long) workouts over time.

Agreed

I just don't think it's a healthy approach to do the diet alone method with no exercise. Moderate exercise to me is necessary since I have a desk job. I don't kill myself. I just get a little bit out of my comfort zone for 20 minutes out of a 30 minute session usually trying to keep the heart rate in the 150-160 range. Certainly nothing unbearable.

atkins isn't a fad; its getting people to think about WHAT TYPE of calories they're consuming (simple carbs/sugar vs. healthier fats and protein). its a TOOL to lose weight. standing on your head while eating nothing but strawberries could be a tool if you're losing weight while doing it.

the point is you're putting your body into an unbalanced state..it doesnt like it..so whether you call it a 'fad' or 'gimmick' who the hell cares?? you're doing this to get to a point where you're comfortable at your weight. all these are 'tricks' to get you to lose weight; WW, atkins, paleo, etc etc. you can't lose weight without some kind of 'gimmick' that will keep you motivated to your goal.

Well WW seems to be more of a traditional common sense diet

I don't think you need anything too crazy to lose weight. Don't eat garbage and eat a balanced diet (i.e. get a fair amount of fiber, protein, healthy fats, healthy carbs etc.)

I agree that all calories aren't created equal but if you reduce your caloric intake and don't eat garbage you should be fine if you pair that with an exercise routine that you'll commit to.

You don't need to do atkins or south beach or whatever to lose weight

The massive water spike continues to fall off.

Last Sunday, I was up to 179.9 and I am down to 170.9.

Big 9 pound drop in a week which means it is pretty much all water. I wish my darn body would mellow out and get used to a higher sodium level without having such wild swings in my weight.

As long as the weight keeps dropping, I am going to keep eating carbs. Hopefully, I can get back to my low on carbs and once at my low, I will add a few extra calories.

Right now I am eating carbs but at a diet level, maybe 1250 to 1500 a day with a 10 mile bike ride 3 times a week.

BEHAVE THIS WEEKEND!

BEHAVE THIS WEEKEND

doing ms150 ride "jack and back" and its a tough one. here's the deal:

- rest stops every 9 miles loaded with food including walgreens who brings a freaking generator and freezer full of ice cream
- lunch stop half way
- unlimited burgers & dogs at jack once you arrive
- dinner on 'bbq hill' at top of distillery
- breakfast before rollout sun morning
- 9 rest stops, and lunch
- big spaghetti dinner upon arriving back in nashville sun afternoon.

its ridiculous. you can gain 10lbs on a 150 mile ride. i will try to avoid all the food..but the festivities are fun..

Not so much. He is the famous baseball PBP commentator on the Rant. Has been doing it for a while for those of us out-of-state people.

I mentioned I was doing an experiment which might kill me, but none of you knuckleheads asked what I was doing.

Without doctor permission, I weaned myself off my BP meds and after two weeks with no meds I got a low reading of 117/77 yesterday and I've been as low as 111/73.

Hopefully it stays down with out the meds. I would assume the meds are completely out of my system by now so as long as I keep exercising and keep the weight down, the BP in theory should stay down.

I am headed to the weigh-in shortly and then to a friend's house to watch the game. I will post the official results then. I'm expecting a maintain.

I have a fairly easy week ahead eating-wise, and have started going to the gym again, so hopefully I'll be able to post an awesome loss next Saturday.

Oh I forgot - next week will NOT be easy! My sister comes in town on Wednesday and I have friends coming in from Dallas on Thursday for the game. Guess I will just keep maintaining until I have an easy week.
