good deal fellas

257/195/175

not much movement for me in ages..i think its mainly due to racing out-of-town almost every weekend for the last 3 months and my inability to NOT eat out while i'm out.

that's all just about over..doing the MS150 ride this weekend and then i'm going to be mostly home on the weekends (except for LSU/TN game)

time to get serious about that last 20lbs. its ridiculous i've stalled at 190-195 since like april.

glad to see the sticky.

also to the person who fasted..thats good stuff. i can talk about that because i did that 2 or 3 times earlier this year and invariably my experience was similar to myth's. i felt great being in control of myself like that and mastering my hunger.

Do you use fasting to begin to lose weight again once you plateau?

ETA: I'm kinda hesitant to post in this thread again after what happened earlier.

Day one of my fast was a bit of punishment when I ate about 7 days of food in one day.

Then I just decided to see how far I could do it.

Cad was nuts when he did it because he didn't stop riding his bike while on the fast. Lucky he didn't pass out and kill himself.

CAD

With all that riding, it is nearly impossible to lose weight because your body is always SCREAMING for more food.

When I stall for a bit, I take a day off from dieting and eat normally, sometimes two. This tricks my body into getting back with the program. It has always worked for me.

Fasting causes too much of a blood sugar drop for me. Then I feel like crap and am too hungry to be good. But that's just me.

I want to try a fast but I'm afraid this will happen to me, being hypoglycemic and all.

Was in New Orleans last Saturday so didn't weigh in. Think I'm holding steady around 233.4. Football season is HARD!! but I have now officially been at this lifestyle change for a year now and it's something I can do forever. I wish I had fast losses like Myth and all you other assholes, but slow and steady works too.

I'll post an official weekend report on Saturday.

:-/ 46.4 in a year for me. So less than 1# a week. BUT it's the longest I've stuck with anything and it doesn't feel like it's been a year, so I'll take it!

g, MYTH (and others) here's my take on fasting:

- i read an article in mens health about a guy who went 21 days on a fast..and went to the gym every day and worked out hard. in the end, he had no noticeable drop in performance and mainly ended the fast because he 'got bored'.

- my 'fast' isn't 100% no eating. i cheat and drink several cups of coffee (with cream and splenda)

- longest fast i've done is 2 days

Now, to hulk's and other's points..people tend to have a very negative view about fasting. Either they've never tried it or they've read something about your body shutting down and eating its own muscles and organs in an attempt to recover from this dire radical shift in eating.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Fasting in fact...is good for you in many ways. I'll try to point them out and hopefully I won't get too much anti-fasting hate back.

1. It gives your body a chance to 'recover'. Read up on it. Fasting allows tons of internal repairs to your body's system to take place that don't happen when you're always stuffing food down it.

2. Mind over matter. A successful fast (even if just 1 or 2 days) makes you feel like superman. Most of us feel powerless to our eating (I know I do) and saying frick YOU to your stomach for 1-2 days makes you feel you can do anything. Weight loss? Nothing to it. I start gaining weight and I play the fast card. frick you stomach.

3. Without getting into a religious debate, there's some good advice in the Bible. When fasting is mentioned as a tool to get closer to God, its no lie. Food is our God (well it is mine anyway) and the ability to abstain from eating is eye-opening. Something that you take for granted HAS TO HAPPEN 3X a day..suddenly you realize..maybe not. Maybe I can skip a meal or 2 here and there and not die from starvation.

4. Plan your mini-fast around a time when nothing is going on, there's less stress and you can get plenty of sleep. Your body actually grows muscle after you've had a good workout best during the sleep hours. Don't try this during an LSU football weekend lol or if you have alot going on..because if you're like me..the most likely time to cheat or say to hell with it is when you're up late doing 1000 things and you get the munchies.

5. Sleep doesn't come easy..especially teh first night of a fast. The FIRST NIGHT is miserable going to bed (I try to get to bed by 9pm on fast days) so keep a tylenol PM handy. tylenol PM is worth its weight in gold at getting you to sleep (less time to think about cheating)

6. The next morning the attack of hunger will be gone. You'll be good to go the whole day; getting through that first 24 or so hours is the tough part. It gets MUCH easier after that.

I don't change my routine (as myth pointed out) when I fast..even though I haven't done it in a long time, the benefits are fantastic. A 2-day fast is almost guaranteed to break any kind of weight-loss stall and get your body going the right direction again.

Just got back from a morning ride. It is nice out there. :jump2:

I actually didn't have trouble with night one of my fast but that might be because I had elventy billion calories the day before.

Night two, I thought shoe leather looked appetizing.

Nope. I'm over it. We all have to walk our own path.

Being fat is not only physical -- it is a mindset. No one else can make you do shite. You have to want it.

You can still truly want it yet have one hell of a time achieving it.

I truly want Zoey Deschanel, but I don't like my odds.
