Ha, no wrap around but it almost to the mid point of my back. It is about 18 inches from the hole I was using at the start to the most recently drilled hole.

Just recapped. Congrats guys!!!

173/158/140

I have a question:

Potatoes. Specifically au gratin potatoes. Since potatoes are nothing but carbs, they can be eating for lunch or early enough to be burned off correct? Or should I not eat them at all?

And if I do eat them, should it only be BEFORE I work out (run)?

Thanks!!

All you will get from the low carb group is pitch forks and torches at the mention of potatoes.

Oops.

I was always told that it's ok, just eat 'em early.

If I need to stay away from the period I will, but I was thinking it all depended on your actual shape and goal shape.

If you're on Atkins or trying to do low-carb, then stay away from them. If you're not, then yes carbs are best eaten in the morning I would think.

Cool, thanks! And congrats on your progress.

But no, I'm not on any low-carb system. If my weight does not continue to come off, then maybe I will give that a shot.

Thanks!

potatoes aren't that bad if you hold off on the bad stuff(cheese, butter, sour cream, etc)

au grain potatoes have a lot of calories. not a good diet for, regardless what time of day you eat them.

Benchwarmer, I never use a recipe for cooking. I rubbed it with vegetable oil, then rubbed on roasted garlic, smoked paprika, Cavendar's, Paul Prudhomme's seafood magic blackening, some garlic pepper salt, and red pepper flakes. Wrapped the whole thing in plastic wrap and let sit in fridge for 24 hours. Next day, take out of fridge for 2 hours before smoking. Put my BBQ grill on clean (500 degrees) and seared on all sides before putting into the smoker. Smoked at 220 degrees with a mixture of hickory, pecan and a smidgen of mesquite. Took about 2-1/2 hours for a 4 pound roast. Cooked to internal temp of 146 degrees. Between rare and med. rare. To die for.

Oh, and 31 pounds down, 10.5 to go!!!!

I am glad you shared your nonrecipe. We just inherited a smoker from my sister and I will have to try this.

Eta: vacation is going well. Lots of meats, salads and green veggies. We are cooking in the condo. I am not cheating. My 19 year old is low carbing with me even though she only needs to lose her freshman 10(she didn't even gain 15). My husband has lost 9-10 pounds just because less carbs are around and available and we are moving more.

recovering nicely with 2.5 lbs of fluid safely removed.

CT, thanks for the idea. CAD will be proud that you "aged" it for a day.

the bad stuff(cheese, butter, sour cream, etc)

SOUR CREAM

WHY YOU THINK IT'S BAD: You know 90 percent of its calories are derived from fat, at least half of which is saturated.

WHY IT'S NOT: The percentage of fat is high, but the total amount isn't. Consider that a serving of sour cream is 2 tablespoons. That provides just 52 calories--half the amount that's in a single tablespoon of mayonnaise--and less saturated fat than you'd get from drinking a 12-ounce glass of 2 percent reduced-fat milk.

EAT THIS: Full-fat sour cream. Unless you actually prefer the taste of light or fat-free products (and who does?), opt for the classic version; it tastes richer, and the fat will help keep you full longer.

CHEESE

"The combination of protein and fat in regular, full-fat cheese is very satiating," says Alan Aragon, a nutritionist in Westlake Village, California, and the Men's Health Weight-Loss Coach. "As a result, eating full-fat cheese holds your appetite at bay for hours, and I've found that it cuts down my clients' food intake at subsequent meals." Aragon's advice: Enjoy snacks of full-fat cheese especially if you're on a diet.

stop thinking if something tastes good it must be bad for you. you'd be better off throwing out the tasteless potato and gobbling a spoonful of sour cream instead.

I seem to recall Lester saying he might give low carb a try so he does need the record set straight on potatoes. "Just say no."

is this healthy?

a standard loaded baked potato is about 600 calories.

your rants about butter and mayo and cheese are really annoying dude. None of its horrible in small doses. Cheese is great for a snack. For every 1 article you can find that says these things are beneficial, i can find 10 that say they promote high cholesterol, heart disease, etc. Especially referring to butter and mayo.

as for a baked potato, eaten correctly, can be a good option as a side. A dab of sour cream i would recommend, some salt and pepper. When you start pilling on cheese, butter, and sour cream, even bacon, then there is no point in even trying to diet. It comes to the point where you are eating as many calories as you want to consume in a whole meal, except its all in the potato.

if you are on atkins, eat as much of that shite as you want. This guy clearly wasn't on atkins. If you want to tell him to eat butter and mayo as he wishes, then you are once again giving bad information

as far as au gratin potatoes, they are loaded with cheese and butter. It's common sense that it taste way too good to be a healthy diet food.

Once again you are speaking in absolutes. Not everyone is on Atkins. Telling fat people Mayo and butter is safe to eat is just bad information, especially considering they are fat probably because they eat too much of that shite.. So you may get a little Vitamin B? Who cares. You are doing more harm than good.

Lester you really need to read the Atkins book. The point is that the loading stuff is acceptable on low carb, the potato itself is not

I know this, that doesn't mean it is healthy.

In any normal diet, a baked potato isn't bad. On a fad diet like Atkins, the potato cannot be eaten but the other stuff can be.

unless you live the rest of your life doing atkins, it is unrealistic to think you are doing yourself any good eating those things.

Most people in this thread used to be fat, and I would venture to say that butter, mayo, etc contributed to that.

Back to my original post on this topic; the guy wanted to eat a damned baked potato. a 500 calorie baked potato as a side item in a normal diet is not good. you are stupid if you think otherwise. That has nothing to do with Atkins
