I learned the hard way that fasting is really bad for women. It jacks up our hormones & makes our ovaries shrink

It's fine for men.

Good morning all. I'm mostly over the cold I had.. still some lingering congestion but not bad. Appetite has recovered.

As a bonus, because I had trouble eating enough macros this weekend, my macros are slightly higher during the week this week - a pleasant change from the norm where I overeat on weekends and have to live on poverty macros during the week

Here is what my week is gonna finish at, pretty much..

And it looks like I'm on pace for about a .25-.5lb gain. Since I'm doing a reverse this doesn't surprise me, in fact I'm right on track. It'll likely increase my macros come Friday weigh-in.

Sometimes entering all these numbers in is a pain in the arse but I enjoy nerding out at all of the information at hand.

First time, long time on this thread.

Hit the gym this morning. Backs and BJ's with an abs circuit as auxiliary. Went to the doc yesterday, down 18 lbs since March 3. About 5 lbs off of high school weight.

Again, why did I just watch all 3 minutes?

I feel like I need to give that one a whirl. My hips are stupid tight, and I'm all about some squats. But I need to be home alone. My white girl bod is way less coordinated than they are.

Is that wrong? Should you not do cardio while you're doing IF?

You do it if you like it, if it makes you feel good. But Layne's assertion is that there's no scientific evidence of metabolic enhancement or fat loss enhancement with fasting or fasted cardio vs not fasted. Same with his assertion that, as long as protein and fiber are high and consistent, that there's no difference in fat loss between high fat or low fat diets.

Ultimately, I've gathered that his stance is.. science shows that adherence, high protein, and high fiber are top priority for fat loss.. but otherwise, do whatever works best for you. He says there is no scientific evidence that high fat/keto/paleo diets, low fat diets, IF, or other variations of fasting have any effect on fat loss other than caloric restriction. I think his stance is pretty reasonable.. He just likes to rile people up on the interwebs with boisterous comments and he gets annoyed with the zealotry around misinformation in the fitness industry.

Layne is right there is no scientific evidence but there is plenty of anadotal evidence. If he wants studies and science well frick em, I got years in the trenches to prove it works.

I like layne but he is a complete douche sometimes. But his stance for strictly fatloss is correct. But Keto and if and fasted cardio work well and plenty of evidence out there to prove it including scientific studies like the ones martin berkham has posted.

Did I mention layne has become another Lyle McDonald, but at least he isn't a 150lbs douche. He at least lifts.

No problem. For diet I suggest you use lean gains style approach. I will send you over a speadsheet for it tomorrow. Basically you skip breakfast and eat from 12-8pm. This is only if you decide to do greyskull.

He's not saying fasting and all of the other diets don't work.. just that there's no scientific evidence that they result in any more fat loss than could be produced in a standard high protein diet in a similar caloric deficit.. That, of course, assumes that adherence is the same in all cases. No diet works if you don't adhere.. so if someone adheres best by cutting out carbs, or fasting, or whatever, then go for it. I'm not really trying to argue those points, just clarifying my take on what Layne seems to think.

He can be a douche nozzle sometimes when he goes on rants, but part of me thinks that is just his way of getting people to pay attention, for better or worse. He wants to combat people spouting nonsense.. I can't say I agree with his methods at times but it's entertaining. He does produce a lot of dogma and zealotry much like the diets he wants to fight against.
