Same here. I know I need to be cutting out carbs, mostly sugar, but I think I've eaten about 5 pounds of sugar in the past week or so. Anyone else this much trouble cleaning up your diet?

I totally understand. The first few days, especially, are so hard. Once I get past that, it becomes a lot easier. Then I start to feel like a badass, which helps keep me going. Forcing myself to keep coming here, even when I'm sucking, helps keep me accountable & shames me into making better choices. I never want to have to come here & report that I've gained weight.

Maybe start by committing to checking in here every morning for a week, to get yourself started?

This would be a good start for me. I know that I'm an emotional eater and I've had lots of crap going on the past few months. Really need to get it together soon.

La Tiara is the brand. Rouses is the only place I've seen them.

Are they tiny shells?

Really, it's about the same amount of carbs per gram of shell compared to regular store bought shells.

4g carbs in 6.6g serving size (1 shell), compared to 6.3g carbs in 10.6g serving size (1 shell)

188/180.6/175

Travel day for work. I love doing a fast while I'm traveling through the airport. I stare at cinnabon, drool a bit, and then mentally pretend I just ate 3 rolls.

Random: I won my first tennis match this week! I'm not a very competitive person, but I'm starting to understand why people like to play sports. Winning is freaking fun.

Sorry I haven't repsonded Junky, been crazy busy at work. I suggest you read his series on leptin. below is the link.

Leptin Part 1

quote:

The catch for me, is when overeating to an absurd level (3k-5k calories) on zero carbs and not putting on much weight, if not losing weight, and how that relates to what leptin is doing while eating that way.

I know we have argued about this before. But bottomline if over a 2 week period you take in more calories than you burn you will gain weight, period. I know you tend to think its not possible with a no carb diet, but thousands of anecdotal post on the internet and every bit of science says your wrong.

quote:

My question here would be, what if I eat zero carbs and don't store fat, but lose it, but leptin must be high enough because of my dietary intake of fats and me never being hungry?

if you are losing weight you are eating below your maintenance calories over a period of time. if you are losing fat but not losing then you are gaining muscle(how are you measuring this?)

quote:

I know his audience here are people looking to drop down below 10% or so. I would love to know the "setpoints" and plateaus people go through and what causes this for average people looking to lose. Maybe this is the body getting use to the lower overall insulin levels, then saying "ok, I'm still safe, I can still release this extra fat (emergency fuel)." - The theory that overweight people can't tell that they have all that excess energy reserves (fat) and their body is telling them to eat more because they are (in reality) malnourished.

Actually most of his audience is just people trying to lose weight. Lyle himself is not a bodybuilder but is an endurnance guy(bike and long distance ice skating)

quote:

Ok, trigs decrease under low (no) carb conditions, allowing leptin to cross the blood brain barrier and telling the body to stop eating. Leptin levels rise in the brain telling us to reduce hunger feeling. So what is the reason for reducing calories so much and only keep protein high at the expense of crashing your hormones? Is targeting the insulinogenic effect of protein and to keep the carbs out to maintain the metabolic efficiency of burning fats the goal? I know you are trying to get a low body fat %. It isn't that I disagree with anything Lyle states as it relates to a SAD or "balanced" diet. Under that context, what he is say is correct. I don't see the reason to crash hormones besides the targeting of the insulinogenic effect of protein, which is a very hard process to achieve in of itself.

the only diet he has you crush calories on is the rapid fatloss diet. and he states right off, don't do this diet and don't crash diet at all, but if you are going to do a crash diet no matter what, do it the way i prescribe. He doesn't recommend the RFL at all to anybody but understands people are going to crash diet so he wrote the book to have a scientific approach to it. He approach is losing muscle is unacceptable even if crash dieting. He took the often medically prescribed protein sparing modified fast that is used for extreme weight loss before a surgery and adapted it for those just looking to lose fat to look better.

The book is also worth a read for a science guy like yourself.

6 eggs and a salad for lunch

Izzo's bowl for dinner

Todays macros:
1978 calories
35g net carbs
142g fat
127g protein

Let's get it.

How much weight did you end up losing on the RFL?

Haven't weighed in since 208.7

No way I was at 205 today, been overeating like crazy.

I think I might go back to RFL though in March.

been doing good since my crazy crazy refeed/cheat on friday and saturday. gained close to 20lbs in 2 days. been pissing every two seconds since and been staying away from the scale.

Gonna stay strict through the end of feb then switch to lean gains for my 12 week lean bulk. then back to rfl for 6 weeks before vacation.
