Talking about adding boiled eggs or potato salad got me thinking about something I haven't done in a while... add a couple of drops of red wine in your bowl of chicken gumbo..AWESOME flavor!!
anyone else ever do that???

Did it years ago. Tasted great. But it requires more than a couple of drops.
The reason I don't do it anymore is because once the bottle is opened you need to drink it. I don't like drinking wine with gumbo.

Oh! Why not???? A good red wine to drink with Gumbo is Christian Brothers Napa Rose'! It's not an expensive wine, but it just seems perfect for adding to gumbo. I put a little less than a quarter cup of it in my gumbo, and then pour a glass of it on the side. Gotta have the french bread with that too!

He added two cups of sauterne wine to his gumbo. First time I had ever seen that.

Sauterne is cooking wine...can't drink that stuff out the bottle..it has salt in it!
But I KNOW when I used to watch him he would put more down his mouth than he would in his food
Most of my wild meats taste better cooked with sauterne. The man was a cooking genious

I like the taste of my gumbo, as is. Mine doesn't need wine. Even if it would taste good, it would alter the taste that I like in gumbo.

Not necessarily. Any dry white wine can be considered sauterne, especially by Justin Wilson.
