Meant to post this earlier in the week, but made fajitas last weekend and decided to go out on a limb and make my own flour tortillas and holy crap, I don't think I will ever buy again. Really easy and used very few ingredients. The majority of the recipes that I found online included lard, but I found one that used butter. Wish I would have taken pics, but I will next time I do it. Just saying if you're hesitant to do it, just do it, super easy and you may never go back to store-bought. The recipe is below, I let my dough rest for a little over an hour, fired up the stove and threw them on a pan, done in less than a minute.

I gotta try that. I’ve heard that about pasta noodles too. Once you make homemade pasta it’s hard to buy store bought again

If you know how or know someone who welds this a Fun Lil Project to make to press and cook tortilla all at once. All in about $30 in material from a steel shop.

Thank you for sharing this. I have to admit after all the complaints lately about recipe blogs that go on and on about BS and seem to never get to the recipe I assumed at first you may be trolling because that blog is the epitome of never ending BS before the recipe. I’m a sucker for a few tortilla though.

It's an epidemic now. You can't find a recipe without first having to read through their entire family history and how the recipe came to be.

I actually prefer the butter taste to the lard, especially when you let them sit until the next day, just something about it. Thanks for sharing the link, it's always hard to find legit Mexican recipes.

whatever tickles your pickle. I grew up with an old mexican lady neighbor as daycare she always used lard.

i was a spoiled little shite growing up on those things. Never been able to enjoy store-bought. It is like comparing store-bought biscuits to grandma's

that said, the take and bake tortillas they have now are solid

I am sure making them is fun but you can get raw tortilla from tortilla land. I get them at super one. They are usually by the dairy stuff.

They are very good, I just throw them on a nonstick pack until they are done on each side. They are 1000 times better than the trash cooked ones you get in a bag on the shelf at the store, which I dont even eat anymore because they make the food taste like garbage.

I have tried a few times in the past, but I never could get it right. I was either over or under needing it. I really should try again, but I got tired of it either breaking apart or coming out too chewy

I had the same issue when I tried corn tortillas, the recipe I posted above is perfect, made them twice now and haven't crumbled yet.

I fricking hate the "here's a great recipe but first scroll through 2,000 words of unnecessary fluff and consume a bunch of ads first" approach to it. And I work in content and media sales.

I had never seen a recipe for flour tortillas that calls for butter.

Well then she should hop on over to King Arthur's recipe that's pretty much the same as hers. LINK

But really, homemade tortillas for breakfast, lunch, or dinner is always good. i've found that doing half lard and half butter is my favorite. Good flavor and texture.

Fresh made flour tortillas are amazing. Luckily for me I can walk 3-4 minutes to a mexican food restaurant that makes them on premises. They make corn too but I don't think they nixtamalize them so they aren't as good.

those are pretty great. Pretty good to toss on the grill too

They don't beat homemade but they are miles better than anything else at the store
