I think if you sign and hit the no receipt option, it clears the screen and they won’t know if you’ve tipped.

The damn iPads piss me off.

Places that I used to never consider tipping at are now asking me for a tip. I don't want to tip, I shouldn't have to. But I also don't want to turn the iPad over to the people preparing my food now knowing that I have not tipped them.

Those piss me off. I have no shame in knowing if I didnt tip. Congrats izzo's, you were able to wrap a burrito and hand me a cup. Your compensation? whatever they pay you.

The other thing is I have no idea where that tip is going. Is there a tip share? Does it go to the man in the back washing dishes? Does it go to the cashier?

I’ll throw them a buck or two

I don’t know why I do it. Guess I feel bad for them or something.

Typically 0. It's in their job description. Not everyone needs a damn tip. If it's a very large order, I'll tip however.

I especially won't tip people at the counter that took my order. WTF? No Izzo's people. I am not going to tip. You have set sizes of stuff and you didn't give me any extra so you don't get extra for doing your job.

Tips are for front of the house staff who provide table service.

Tips are not for people who think they "deserve" or "are entitled to" tips because they work in a restaurant that has a line for a tip on the receipt.

Tell me about it. Look, I worked in the service industry. I always tip well. But last week, I went to a fast casual place for lunch, ordered a noodle bowl at the counter, picked up my meal there and I got hit up for a tip. Just no. You threw some stuff in a box and handed it to me. I don't tip when I walk in a fast food joint, and the folks at McDonald's are doing more work than you.

I think society has changed their stance on this over recent years so I've attempted to change also. I usually go with $1 for a small order (under $25) and $2 when I'm getting a take out order for the entire family ($25-60). I just aim to be average.

I have to admit that I like the places that won't let you tip though (i.e. mark through the tip line and do not have a tip jar). Not many of those places.

10%, topped out at $5.

So I'd tip $5 in your case.

Usually zero, the only exception being ethnic places that hardly have customers but make great food. I want to help keep them in business. So anywhere from $5-10 depending on how I feel.

I agree with the iPad comment, hate that shite (izzos and the like)

1 or 2 dollars. The baws and bawettes are not making much money.

I was once told 10% on bar and take out and 18-20% on restaurant. That was a while ago, so things may have changed today.

I always tip on to go orders.

Just be aware of your surroundings. If its some chain restaurant like Chili's who has a person who specifically gets paid to do to go orders and you don't want to tip them, then whatever.

but if its a bartender who is taking to go orders just remember they're tending their bar customers and making every drink in the dining room. So I feel they deserve to be tipped. Same goes for a server who is gathering to go orders while waiting on tables.

This. I always tip a little on to go orders and I am usually getting a drink or beer while I wait for it, so I tip more then. These people are touching my food.

Pizza delivery gets at least 5 bucks. Ten during the holidays. I tip on good food pretty generously unless there’s a reason not to do so.

If it's a restaurant whose main business isn't take-out, I definitely tip because the cashier is usually one to pack all your shite up in the bag, make sure you order is correct, get your drinks, throw in all the utensils, sauce packets, napkins, etc. I've been to places where they're also responsible for making side salads and such if you have any of those in your order. All in all, I figure they're spending at least 5-10 mins getting my order ready and deserve a tip.

0$.

Worked in the food industry for 3 years while in undergrad. We barely got tipped for cleaning the mounds of plates people left after eating the pizza buffet we had. I sure as hell am not giving money to someone for boxing up my food. Its no different than walking into burger king and waiting for an order

Now if we eat in and the service is good, I always tip 20-25%

0%. It's take out. They provided no service.

Hopefully they cooked and packaged your food properly for your enjoyment.

ETA: I'm speaking of takeout from a restaurant. There I'd tip about 10%.

That's the cost of the meal.

You tip for someone bringing it to you, filling your drink, making your cocktail, etc.

I'm paying solely for the meal when I take out. That's the price printed on the menu. That's what I pay.
