I don't typically tip on takeout unless the order was at least one of the following:
1. exceptionally large
2. prepared exceptionally fast
3. exceptionally complicated (lots of special orders)

A couple bucks. $5 if the order is over $50. Those to-go people make nothing.

tipping for to go orders makes you look like you are trying to hard.

I try to stay out of the tipping threads here because they tend to get ugly, but this statement is incorrect. Nowadays, there's WAITR, but usually someone has to stop what they're doing to take your phone call, transpose the order into the system, bag up the order including all condiments and perhaps utensils, then cash you out when you pick up. It may not seem like a lot, but to say there is no service involved in incorrect. There are certain situations where waiting on a table is actually easier and less work than fulfilling a to go order from start to finish. I wouldn't, however, say there is one single proper way to tip on to go orders since it is just that...a tip. Do to go orders warrant a 20% tip? Nah, but those who have been in the industry understand why a to go tip is a good gesture and considerate.

If you can't afford to tip a delivery driver at least $5 you're just being cheap. 15-20% on a big order seems more than fair.

I usually roll my eyes at most of the cheap bastards in these threads, but this is ridiculous.
