if your family went to Red Lobster for dinner, that meant you were really doing something. It meant you got dressed up in your church clothes. It meant you would be using a salad fork and maybe even ordering the fancy dish you saw on TV.

we haven't been going to restaurants like Red Lobster the way we used to, and it's not because our collective palate has changed. It's because we can't afford to eat out anymore.

We never lost faith in the American dream...a lot of that had to do with Red Lobster.

Is this guy being sarcastic or making fun of us?

Is there some other knock - off chain.

The Red Lopster is still on the menu around these parts. Has he driven past on a Friday night? Never heard of that lobster place.

This news story hurts.

I post here a lot and read FDB more than I post. I can already tell you the posters who will post the Gag guy and make fun of Red Lobster closing.

I see them as the uncaring rich among us and the worst of American character. I know they are too wealthy (classy) to eat there, but if you read the story closely, for many people, Red Lobster was a huge night out from their normal existence, and I see it as an incredibly sad thing that they can no longer afford even Red Lobster.

Regardless of what my fellow posters write, I see it as painfully sad that the chain can't make it in these really tough (for the little guy and the less affluent among us) times.

My $0.02 worth of opinion. I probably owe you guys a penny.

If they are that poor they really have no one to blame but themselves for not expanding their work skills.

Who do they blame for the value of their dollar being worth less than it was 30 years ago?

I grew up in a pretty financially strapped single-mom family. For us, "eating fancy" was Piccadilly.

That being the case, with a few exceptions I think most on this board don't look down on Red Lobster as being a "poors" place to eat.

It's just that with the abundance of reasonably priced fresh seafood being readily available in the Gulf South, it's pretty understandable to give a Gag Guy to Red Lobster when better, fresh food can be obtained at a gas station.

I think there are probably a lot of reasons why Red Lobster is faltering. There is more awareness of food in our culture than say 25 years ago, most even small towns have vibrant farmer's markets and chef owned restaurants, and people eat out more (which drops the "specialness" of dining out across the spectrum).

I think the more salient point is that it costs more to eat out now than it did just 5-10 years ago. People arent making as much money. Ergo, people eat out less or are less willing to use their dining out dollars for a Red Lobster place. Red Lobster was a convenient example. Since we shouldnt talk politics at the dinner table, I'll leave out why I think that is.

I am far from a liberal, but I agree with this sentiment, but not from an economic standpoint or from caring about Red Lobster.

What bothers me tremendously is making fun of the people that enjoy a particular place/food. I don't go to RL, and don't have any problem with the criticism of the restaurant, its food or its practices.

I just can't stand the elitist, "I am better than those people because I don't eat at ______" attitude.

Train wreck maybe, but they were in control o the damned train. During the summer there was a ""strike" o fast food employees(actually hired help to walk the lies by SEIU) but along with it came a few morsels of incredulity from the mouths o workers. One individual has worked for Mickey for 24 years and never received a raise despite being given many chances to advance with the company he has refused them all. For 24 years he has been a French fry cooker. Picking up cans to recycle would be better time spent but I presume he has a side job with the meth and coke trade of Chicago.

I agree with this sentiment as well. I hate Red Lobster. I've only been there a couple of times but the experience was awful each time and I steer my friends and family away from it if I can. However, I'm not judging people who eat there.
