huge beer and liquor selection. can get some beers you cant find anywhere else in LA.

service industry place. big place but its kinda like a cave. pretty dark. used to have a good crew of bartenders but the owner ran them off. that crew is pretty much all the people that started pelican house. smoky.

Overall they did an outstanding job with the place and BR just got a great beer bar that was much needed.

I'm not so quick to say its a "great" beer bar just yet. It is certainly good.

Getting proper glassware is a must. I've been told they are quickly working to improve on this. Also, using it at the right temperature - I shouldn't have to ask. I'd also like to see some smaller pour options and beer flights offered at some point.

The big keys to me are how many taps are rotating, how many special releases they can nab, and what type of special events they can offer. All this will remain to be seen.

It certainly seems promising.

Went Wednesday and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to going back and trying out some of the food.

I almost feel like they have too many taps and some kegs might move very slowly.

i think this is going to happen anytime you have a substantial amount of taps.

something like maredsous 10 might only get poured a few times a week, if that. i think not having any of the big 3 on tap will somewhat help this problem though

Sounds good.

I'm not saying I'd want to do that. But I'd hope I can feel comfortable there wearing a T-shirt and shorts in good condition on a hot summer night.

There were people in tshirts.. it just depends on whether you're the type that overdresses or underdresses. I noticed a LOT of couples in their 40s-50s showing up after they seemingly had a nice dinner.

I'd never go downtown in anything less than heels and makeup and if not a dress/skirt, still a nice looking outfit. Yet there are people in tshrits downtown all the time.

I don't think I'd go to Pelican House without the same. At least not with the vibe that's been going on the two times I've been.

I went Friday night and it was a lot of jazz band stuff. Perfect IMO.

Only had bourbon. Great selection.

Everyone is addressing the beer selection and liquor (which I agree is great) but what about the food? Personally some good Louisiana flare items, but the one thing that'll worry me is putting out food in a timely manner (the kitchen is tiny albeit well equipped). I honestly believe with just a couple orders here and there they will be fine, but if they hit a big food rush a 30-40 minute ticket time won't surprise me. I have known the guys for a while, have supported them since inception, but am just thinking a little ahead on this. This may be an even bigger problem at lunch with people on time constraints looking to get back to work...

I see what youre saying but their menu didnt seem like it was filled with many dishes that are going to take long to make. Pork sandwiches, gumbo, etc arent going to take long to serve. These are already made. Basically just assemble the dish and bring it out. Menu, if I recall correctly, didnt have items like grilled chicken sandwiches, which take long to make.

You seem to be familiar with the kitchen and food. Am I off in thinking this with the food prep? They gave us a menu but my buddy took it with him

Mostly fried goods and sautéed/blackened items, chicken sandwich and burger, couple broiled items. None take overly long to make, but when u have 2 guys manning a line, with a fryer, a handful of burners, a grill, and a broiler, it can get really bad really quickly. Lets say this becomes a service industry place as well. What happens when 30 restauranteurs leave work hungry and thirsty, wanting a quick bite and done drinks, and u have 30 tickets in a matter of a couple minutes. That'll back up a fully equipped kitchen a little bit. And maybe it becomes only a bar and food is just a small afterthought, who knows. Only time will tell.

Went back last night. Really gonna enjoy this place. Good crowd last night with a nice mix of people. It does feel more upscale than most beer bars.

Limited dinner menu starts Monday when they open at 4. Then full menu the next week and they'll open at 11 for lunch.
