But there isn't a plethora of beer nerds working industry jobs in BR and no training the world will force someone who isn't interested in craft beer to become interested
Terrible excuse. If your job is bartending a beer-centric place you better learn about it.

I agree.. I'm just saying I know why these girls don't know what's going on. It's because a beer bar opened.. Wanted t&a/table service.. So they hired girls. And I guess training them fell to the wayside.
I wholeheartedly agree they should have been trained even a little.
I don't know if they were just willing to take what they could get as far as employees go or what.
I did recently find out if you buy a beer at the bar and then sit down and have table service the rest of the night, the bartender sees a single-digit percent of tips from the cocktail waitress and I don't like that since the bartender knows the beer... So I'll probably walk to the bar in the future.

At this early juncture, does it seem like this place will thrive, survive or die?

I think it'll survive, and as they work out kinks it could start to thrive.

After reading this thread it seems pelican house is a wanna be yard house that needs to improve a lot of things. I hope they do for BR. It's a very successful business model elsewhere.

The place had a real awkward vibe the time I went, which was the Friday night of memorial day weekend. I really couldn't put a finger on it, I just was not "feeling it". The place wasn't crowded. The bartenders seemed pretty annoyed and weren't engaging at all. Decided to sit down and had a girl serving us. We finished our drinks and had to wait awhile for her to comeback every time.
I think they are confused as to what they want (or need) to be. Is it upscale, is it relaxed, do I wait forever for the waitress to come or do i go to the bar, is it a restaurant or is it a bar?

Also, I paid $10 for a pint of Stone Russian Imperial Stout.. some of their stuff seems a little too steep. I like the place but I also agree that it hasn't hit its potential yet.
FWIW, the same beer is $6 for a 10oz pour at bulldog. So if you are saying it is overpriced against its competition it doesn't hold up.

I didn't know its price at BD. That seems really steep.
Posted on 6/10/13 at 11:53 am to Hulkklogan
Considering what you can buy that bottle for, yes it is steep. However that is true for any beer at a bar.

Yeah. A bottle of delirium nocturnum is $9 at a llot of places.. wtf

Well, PH doesn't offer smaller pours, which sucks.
Stone IRS is something I would definitely prefer in a 10 ounce or half-pint serving.

Am I the only one who prefers Chimes [on campus] to PH and Bulldog?
Posted on 6/10/13 at 12:46 pm to JBeam
Too reataurant-y for me. I like to eat there but I prefer bulldog and ph.

You'll be happy to know that my so has helped to change my opinion on the bulldog.
I prefer the appetizers at chimes to what is available at Bulldog. But, the atmosphere has gotten better at Bulldog imo. This could be because I'm getting older.

Yayyy!!! I'm very glad to hear that!
Agree about the food. I think of the food as a supplement to the bar.. Whereas I think chimes food can be good without drinking at all (I.e. treating it like a restaurant)

Yes.
Only because The Chimes' beer selection is just awful, at least in comparison to their other locations. I enjoy the food there much better than either Bulldog or PH though.

It's bad. Real bad.

Fair enough, I enjoy the staff that works there & the fact that I asked for a "Dark N Stormy" one weekend [they didn't have it] & then the following weekend they had ordered the Gosling ginger beer for the drink.

I stopped going, because they stopped trying.
