Yea, I never drink the same thing anywhere I go, so I only "gut feel" for prices of a pint of beer. But PH definitely seems expensive.

It is still a welcome addition to the BR beer scene.

but there are a lot of bars with good beers on tap in N.O.

Other than Avenue Pub, I haven't heard of many of them

There certainly aren't that many with a huge tap line up

There has definitely been a significant number of big name craft breweries expand or announce expansion into the state (not just BR) over the past year or so.

In my experience this is happening nationally

There has been an explosion of craft beer in the U.S. over the last 10 years

I enjoy pelican. I've never had a bad time and the prices didn't throw me.

Bulldog will always be my home though. I find they rotate their taps plenty and they know their shite. I love the workers and regulars too much to ever leave.

That said, I don't compare bulldog and pelican. They may both be beer bars but I use them for complete different things. I'd go to bulldog alone in workout pants. I wouldn't go to pelican without a cute outfit and some friends lol

The number of taps isn't necessarily a good indicator of the quality of a beer bar.

Avenue Pub has about 50 and that's more than plenty. Places like Pelican House and the Bulldog can champion that number of taps all they want, but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of it will be filled with crap or a bunch of craft beers in name only.

I went to beer bar in Rome this year that had 13 high-quality rotating taps that had better much better offerings than a place like The Bulldog.

There have been times when The Bulldog hasn't a single IPA available in all those taps.

Glad to see that beer appreciation is finally making its way to BR. Only about 20 years behind Chicago.

I'm also surprised that Baton Rouge doesn't offer the same things as cities like Chicago, New York, LA, Paris, Munich, Tokyo.

I mean, get with it BR, what is wrong with you?

I agree

But the Chimes has a great selection of beers

And if we want to get into a pissing match about beer bars, Naja's Place in Redondo Beach makes all of the LA places look like a steaming pile of shite.
