You ordered extremely safe and boring. No wonder your meal wasn't that great. Maybe the waiter let you down with their recommendations, but you should have been more adventurous.

I guess I need to brush up my pretentiousness skill set. I'm lacking in this department apparently. But don't worry! I have my pen and pad out right now taking notes on this here thread. There's enough of it to fill out an entire "how to" book.

Maybe the waiter pegged you as a person who would enjoy fish sticks, gumbo, and hush puppies. Don't be mad because you wore jeans to Peche.

Go back and quote the number of times people called your choices kiddie dishes & uncultured...

The overwhelming sentiment was that your waiter did a poor job with recommendations and that those choices weren't the proper choices if you're looking to get wowed and have exquisite food. You got overly upset at one comment and derailed the thread into the dumpster.

I had terrible service the one time I went, and I suppose some of the dishes we ordered suffered as a result, but I left singularly unimpressed and won't go back. And I know many posters that I respect really like it, but there are way too many better choices to dine when I'm there to roll the dice with them again...

actually you should go back and revisit this thread. there were quite a number of pot shots taken throughout until I finally decided to call those people out for their pretentious banter. I have no issues with people saying I ordered the wrong thing. I accept and agree that the waiter was bad and recommended underwhelming food. However, I didn't get overly upset at these statements. I did fight back in this world of internet tough-guys with some verbal haymakers, but strictly in response to the initial jabs and hooks directed my way.

I've been to Peche once. I was directed to the small plates by the server. The food was okay. It didn't blow me away. They definitely aren't shy with the salt.

I've never been, but for a place that is supposed to be really good, I would think they would strive to make their small plates/snacks just as good as their big hitters on the menu. Sounds like they do a handful of things really well and maybe just mail in the lesser things. For a place that is supposed to do well in the small plates area, they should be up to par with the entrees.

I have been there three times and have only gotten one item on your list, the fish sticks, and wasn't impressed.

The other things I have ordered were all fantastic, oysters from different coasts, whole grilled fish, and all of the sides.

The seating arrangement you mentioned is not optimal but is common in even fancier places. Peche is not the sort of place to have a quiet sophisticated meal.

Next time, adjust your expectations and ordering and you will enjoy.

Nothing that I said was really assuming. I read through the thread and based my post on everything that people were saying.
