GR did change Commotion first. Then Parish changed Envie. Neither were super hazy at the time. This was in the very beginning.
OK, pre-2015, I don't know who changed what and when.
I do know that Envie was changed in November 2015 to make it hazy and hoppier and released at Grand Reserve Day. Then in late December 2016, it was changed again for the new yeast. Envie was a much different beer after the November 2015 change than Commotion. Night and day.

No doubt it has changed over the years.

Yeah I know. Someone asked that about commotion on the last page.

Funny, Parish purged this blog post from their website
Make Ghost Great Again
In the end, meaning today, we have decided that we are done trying to fight our house yeast. We simply cannot rely on it to yield a consistently cloudy (or clear) IPA. There are lots of other yeasts out there that we don't have to fight their flocculation tendencies. Enter Bloom, a new IPA. We wanted to give a cloudy yeast we love a shot at making an IPA in our brewery. We knew the beer would be cloudy and hopefully more fruity and juicy. The result was exactly what we expected. So in addition to making a delicious new IPA, we have also found a yeast that we want to try in our other hoppy beers, Ghost, Opus Vert, and Envie. The first batch of a beer with this new yeast will be an Envie batch that was brewed Dec 2, last week. You'll probably see it in the market within a few weeks, probably with a bottled date of roughly 12/19 to 12/22. Also we are brewing a new batch of Opus Vert with this new yeast this week on 12/8. It will be ready and bottled around the new year. Next batch of Ghost, to be release in Jan. will also use this new yeast. If and when you find these batches, please let us know what you think. If the beers suck, we will revert back to what we were doing and try to find another path forward. If the beers instead make you say "wow," then we will proceed and brew more of them.

yeah that was the batch of G&G that isn't supposed to be brought up
Posted on 1/31/18 at 2:02 pm to Salmon
Yep ghost and Grace and grit were both dark and not hazy.

Sure. But BugAC is saying Parish ripped off Great Raft when it comes to hazy style pale ale. I'm positive that's not true, thus the side by side pic.
Yeah, that's not what I said at all. I stated that GR changed commotion first because they weren't happy with the beer. Then Parish followed suit. I have no idea who started off the hazy first, though I'm pretty sure it was Parish. But the initial changing of the recipe under the same brand was started by GR and Parish followed after.
Great Raft Blog Post May 2015
I think I remember Parish coming out with one too when they released Envie, but can't be certain and can't find anything.
New Envie TD post - November 2015
Interesting to read through that thread.

Great Raft had just as much influence
On what? Arkansas and East Texas? Maybe if they'd managed their distribution better they could make into the Gnarly Barley/Urban South tier behind Parish. For people in Baton Rouge the GR warehouse-aged hop program lands them down around Abita quality and their special releases all seem to go everywhere but BR. And they can keep their freaking lagers

Bring me some fresh then! Crescent Crown sure can't.

Gnarly Barley/Urban South tier
Is this even widely distributed in North LA like it is down there?

That's false. Great Raft had just as much influence over great beer as Parish did.
False. Ghost really got things going. Maybe Great Raft was doing something around the same time, but 90% of the state would have no idea with their horrible distribution. Every other good brewery in the state has tried to make their own sensation like Ghost was for Parish
quote:
Parish followed GR's lead after GR changed up their formula for Commotion. 3 weeks later, Parish changed up their formula for Envie. This was Pre-Ghost.
Already discussed at length in this thread. Completely false. Envie’s current formula is based off of Ghost, which had already been hugely successful. Commotion lagged behind the success of Ghost, at minimum

And also, don't forget about NOLA. They were the first real craft brewery that came about since Abita. Before Ghost and before new recipe envie, we were all singing praises for Hopitoulas and MechHopzilla.
It’s hard to say something tastes like shite unless you have something better to compare with. Those beers don’t hold up against anything made today, and Ghost led the way on the dozens of fantastic beers being made in the state now

Anybody else getting tired of the constant Parish marketing hype?
Posted on 1/31/18 at 9:47 pm to LouBega
I just think it’s crazy to have to drive to Broussard to get any of their interesting releases and this SIPS thing is laughable. I’m sure it will be a hit with the hipster neck beards who drink sours and saisons though.
It’s probably an inside joke. Andrew and the parish staff are having a laugh about how idiots will line up for $16 crowlers of anything they put out.
