Just curious....how many FDB-ers use these plates daily? I belong to some FB food groups and a great deal of the photos show disposable plates being used regularly...

I have no objections either way. I do use real plates, though... it's also just me and the better half, so clean up is not a factor.

just depends on what's for dinner. Burger/grilled chicken sandwich and homemade fries is going on paper plates. A pasta/anything saucy or anything that requires cutting like a pork chop of steak is going on real plates.

That's because facebook is populated with a lot of young people and my experience is they are too damn lazy to want to actually wash dishes and would rather toss shite in the trash can to fill the dumps.

Never, unless I'm handing someone a go-plate and know that they're not coming back.

If you own a dishwasher, there is zero reason to use disposable. It's a waste of money, a waste of resources, and a waste of your time. One set of plates can last a lifetime--why in the hell would you spend money to keep buying new ones? You can buy new for very little, or buy at Goodwill or garage sale for literally pennies.

ETA: melamine or other unbreakable dishes for kids are also super cheap. Be the change and STOP using disposable plates inside your house.

Dixie Paper Plates 90% of the time at my house

If people are over or we are cutting (steak, etc) we use the good stuff.

I can afford them and they're easy to use, especially with kids.

So true. The wife and I have one set of fine china that gets used on special occasions and a big set of daily use dishes that get used all the time.

Her 2 kids, now both adults, still use paper for just about everything they eat. The money they've spent on paper plates over the years far outweighs what I've got tied up in real dishes.

And for them it is just a matter of being too damn lazy to want to wash dishes when they are done eating.

I have real plates, but $2.50 for 100 plates isnt gonna kill my budget. Its definitely a time saver as I dont have to do dishes as much and can throw it right away when I am done.

eta: this is also single life...when I had a s/o, I never used paper plates.

Yes, it was. "I can afford it" is a terrible excuse for mindlessly using unnecessary resources. Yes, we all waste...but the environmental costs of your daily decisions pile up, year after year. You might say, the plates are paper, they'll biodegrade...but they come in an outer plastic wrapper, and they're shipped via truck, etc.

You can unload the dishwasher in the time it takes to drip a pot of coffee (or boil water for tea in the AM, or while you wait to press the plunger on your french press).

People with showplace kitchens and beautiful dining rooms w/china cabinets full of unused dishes....while they eat off of paper plates. SMDH.

The real plate argument is strong. I use the same set of basic white plates that was given to me 14 years ago when I moved into my house. Never goes out of style and I feel it adds a dimension to my meals....even week night basic suppers....

We rarely use them unless it's like a kids birthday party or something with a ton of people over.

We dont use them with every kids meal...we have kids dishes as well to use... but to say that there is no reason to use them suggest you dont have kids or you have lots of time to work on dishes daily. I'm not dirtying a plate for every little snack especially when they have friends over too.

Especially since dishes are cheap.as.hell. A basic family sized set of Corelle (oven, dishwasher, microwave safe, hard to break) will set you back $30 at any big box store; stoneware is even cheaper.

Took me a while, but I finally broke better half of the paper napkin habit. We have at least two dozen perfectly nice linen dinner napkins...why in the hell did we need disposable paper napkins? We do laundry weekly; 7 or more dinner napkins aren't making an extra load. Those paper napkins are one less thing to buy and use once...I also ditched the disposable dryer sheets, since they're made of plastic mesh...using the solid wool balls to "soften" fabrics.

Paper plates and paper dinner napkins are a huge pet peeve of mine. Unless you are eating outside or there is a large group of people over, there is no good reason to use disposable stuff.

Only time we ever use disposable plates is when we have a party. 3 kids under 5 and we are 30s.

The amount of waste from plates/cups is astounding.

I used to work for a large organization(1.5k+ on one campus). In the break rooms we had ice/water machines with styrofoam cups and plates. The break room closest to my office probably went through 500-1000 cups a week and a few hundred plates.

A friend and his wife from Connecticut don't use paper towels for that reason. They use wash and dry towels and rags only. Everyone begs them to please get paper products, but they won't do it.

We probably use 500 a DAY. 300+ workers out in the factory and 30 in the office. Everyone uses them for coffee or a quick drink in the factory.
