You're not the only one that thinks Outback has gone down in the last couple of year. It's gotten pretty bad, IMO. Used to be my favorite chain, by far, but not even close now. Quality of meat has changed. Service is always good, though.

We used to never offer steak sauce as that is almost an insult to the steak. Now they have A1, Heinz 57 and some other one that I forget sitting there on every table!
that's the tell tale sign and the mason-dixon line between a high quality steak house and a lonestar is that right there .. that speaks volumes for where outback is going ..

Does anyone know if its just this location or all outbacks?? Has anyone had a simular experience at the Acadian Outback or elsewhere?

i can 100% assure you leaving steak sauce on the table is not an adopted practice at outback now
you just ran into a night with a shitty busser who didn't feel like taking them off...a problem that needs to be addressed, but it was not done "on purpose"

Dude, it was on every table! I am referring to the Lafayette location, BTW. I know a buch of hicks come in from the "country" to go there for their big Saturday in the "city" and don't know any better. They would automatically ask for A1 when the steaks would come out. Maybe they just got fed up with it and decided to put it on every table to avoid the hassle.

went to the Acadian Thruway one a few weeks ago and Prime Rib wasn't as good as it used to be.
also didn't like it that they took off of the menu the Prime Section a few years ago.

i opened that store back in the day. i've noticed a definite drop off in the quality of steaks, and it shows on the menu.
they used to advertised that everything was Top Choice, but it isn't anymore.
must be feeling the economic crunch.
it's a widely known fact that the steaks at outback aren't what brings in the money. steaks break even. it's the bloomin' onion that's the moneymaker.
it costs 9 cents to make a bloomin onion. and they sell millions yearly.

enjoyed a nice birthday meal at an outback last night, got my usual 8 oz with mushrooms and fries. still pricy, but i always leave there satisfied. sounds like the one you went to had some issues.

they get my $7 for the bloomin every time i go. but I agree with this thread... the salads definitely got smaller, as did the pasta dishes. I used to Outback like once a month, now probably twice a year.

I have a close friend who manages an Outback, he has been complaining for over a year that there is a new mission statement about changing the appeal of Outbacks to something that is "more universal." He has been nothing but pissed for a while now because they are trying to turn a restaurant he has worked at forever into "an expensive Applebees." (His words...)
I never go there, but based on other stories he has told me lately, steak sauce on every table as a new practice would not surprise me.

i am also friends with a couple managers and a few propietors as well...one including the propietor of the jones creek location
all i'm saying is, outback did not adopt any such policy to leave steak sauce on the table
as far as steaks..since karma opened lafayette he can tell you for years they did make a decent profit off of ribeyes, and their prime rib.....b/c they cut their own
they started getting their ribeyes pre cut years ago and that now makes prime rib their most profitbale cut
but just like with any restaurant, you "make your most money" on the items with the largest markup...(bloomin onion ex), but they do have other "money makers" on the menu

they did indeed
they got new bowls/plateware, and when they did...the portions decreased
it was one way they could increase profits without increasing prices

first off, i highly doubt you looked on every table in the restaurant
it may have been on alot of them, and depending on the night you went, i can understand that if you have a shitty buss staff on and the front manager isn't doing their job, got busy bailing someone out in the kitchen or is dealing with customer/employee issues

i highly, HIGHLY doubt it...so much so, i would wager on it
call Craig Guilbeaux (the propietor) at (337) 235-4405 and ask him...maybe i was lied to, or given totally wrong information unintentionally by the diffeent people i talked to

LSUFAN4444, you sure seem to be spending alot of time arguing about if there was steak sauce out or not. What difference does it really make? Outback is a micky mouse steak house. I hope most people don't take it serious as a place to get a steak.
They are decent at that they do, but that is it.

i have only had 5 posts in the entire (3 page) thread and the first two didn't mention steak sauce at all
then i responded to the topic brough up by someone else
but, if that is alot of arguing, i'll admit to it

i never brought it up...ask the person who brought it up. i only disputed the statement (which i believe, and was told, to be incorrect)

I've been to Outback (Acadian) many of times (never to the Jones Creek location though) and I can't say that I've had a horrible meal yet. It's not the best meal I've ever eaten, but the times I've been has been comparable to Chili's on Seigen.
I usually share the Aussie fries (I know their horrible) or the Bloomin Onion with someone and get the Outback Special and a Baked Potato. Like I said its not the best meal, but I didn't think it was horrible or in the same class as Applebee's.

the food quality is better at outback than chili's, although perception is starting to trend them closer together as i see
bad service or preparation can really ruin good quality food
i can assure you the food cost at outback is IMMENSLY more than chilis...something is getting screwed up after that obviously

i remember when the jones creek location opened .. they used to have a "prime" menu with a little better cut of meat .. i always took advantage of that and loved it .. then it disappeared from the menu ..

some locations had it alot longer than others and there are some that never had it (i think)
the beef on the prime menu was "prime" beef whereas the rest of their steaks were always choice
its a shame when execution along with good quality can do so much for a restaurant, but when execution fails...there is little you can do to rebound quickly

I know that when I first started to go to Outback (10 years ago), that it was a damn good meal. Their steaks were as good as any local place could get. Now in the last 2 years, I have noticed a big dropoff in quality. So much so, that I am starting to cross it off my list of restaurants.

at one point, i thought that the prime steaks were every bit as good as ruth's or sully's .. but didn't cost as much .. i used to eat there regularly because of this .. i was really bummed when they dropped it from the menu .. the prime steaks -- if memory serves -- were only about $3 or so more than the choice steaks ..
