Here's the menu for Charlie's. The Charlie's Seafood Platter is $23 if I'm not mistaken.

If you're a baller, may wanna try Ruffino's

Is that directed at me? Last time I went there I spent $140 on shite. The fillets were terrible, the potatoes terrible, crab cheesecake tasted like fish. Hell, even the salad was bad. How do you do that? Used to be one of my favorite places..... Idk if I'll be going back.
It was so bad that I bought and cooked my own fillets the next day

Apparently Parrain's is not "legit LA food", but no one will tell me why.

Because it is legit, and pretty casual, great place.

I'm a Parrains fan. Kitchen normally keeps up and the drinks are good as is the food.

Now two things in this thread I will point out.

For crawfish ettouffee I'll put my money on Sammys with the fried catfish. That dish can hang with and put to shame most others ettouffee. It's that good. And I know it's just Sammys but they do fried fish good and boiled crawfish good and someone somewhere got in that kitchen and taught them to cook an ettouffee. If you haven't had it run, don't walk your fat arse, run and order it.

I've always been a fan and a supporter and frequent diner of Ruffinos and to see a statement that everything sucked I know is from someone who doesn't know or appreciate food. All restaurants have bad days but the chances of everything from the salad app and entree being bad are highly unlikely. More likely is someone not used to spending what it takes to eat in some restaurants on a regular basis and being pissed because he can cook a filet better at home for cheaper.

Robertos is a good choice as well and no corkage fee.

That's what I came to believe during the course of the thread as well...

Oh mighty F&D board poster

Ruffinos WAS one of my FAVORITE restaurants. It was THAT bad. I was embarassed for my date who was choking down her food acting like she enjoyed it until I mentioned something. Glad you were there to tell me how my experience was though

Not sure where you go this from. Some people may say it's on the lower end of acceptable, but acceptable none the less, and def worth the money.

You probably need to refine your palate a little more.

Seriously though, the dry aged steak they got right now is awesome. We had a party of about 18. All apps were devoured, all entree's came on time, waiters were top notch, and no one complained about a thing, quite the opposite actually. Everything I tried was delicious. Seems like it gets hated on from time to time, maybe they just aren't consistent. I can't confirm or deny since I rarely eat there.

Ma Mamma's in new roads not to be confused with Not your mama's.
Tell him to get the fried soft-shelled crab, with a Tasso holisdaise sauce. Also the appetizer Oysters 2x2x2 is legit.

Perhaps you should have ordered the ceasar salad and the hot pocket.

If that's the case, I can't wait for them to open the p-ville location! That's one of my favorite meals.

I've always thought Parrain's was good and should represent LA cooking pretty good.

Sammy's, Dempsey's, and Tommy's seafood in Prarieville are also good in my opinion. And I have been to Ruffino's several times and loved it every time.

Take them to Tony's seafood for takeout lunch. You can never go wrong with Tony's and the variety they have.

Is this the place where the guy shows up on this board "threatening" people?

If so, don't do it. "Make up for it" is code for a swim in the Mississippi.

"If he wants legit then screw Parrains."

2:28 pm yesterday. That's where I got it.

I was confused, because I have been to Parrain's dozens of times, and most of the food seems like legit LA fare.
