Not a big catfish fan either, but I'd have it before tilapia. Tilapia is just throw away crap. It's what I'd expect to be served at a hospital cafeteria.

Actually, you'd find cod and pre breaded mahi at those before tilapia.

Tilapia gets a bad rap on here, but it's a good fish that assumes what ever seasoning you use.

I agree. It's a mild tasting fish that is fairly versatile. It gets a bad rap on here and is "cool" to hate. I'm not saying it's my first choice but I certainly don't turn my nose up at it like most do on here.

This guy gets it. The number of fish raised and exported out of Asia is enormous, and they're feeding those fish absolute crap.

Nah, that's just your easy excuse to try and claim a win on an argument. Farm raised Viet tilapia is fricking nasty.

Perhaps this is a remark upon your lack of scruples, rather than the snobbery of others.

So is tofu. Yet I'd be willing to bet you're the kind of person who says anyone who eats tofu is a California homo.

I like fish that actually has its own flavor. Not some "blank canvas."

Asia is enormous.

And the number of catfish raised and exported out of Mississippi is enormous.

And reds from Texas.

Shrimp from Louisiana.

Etc.

Family member moved to the Pacific NW and fixes tilapia once a week. It hurts me to think about it.

I would understand that if they moved to Nebraska, but the NW?

Correlation does not imply causation.

It's not the volume, but rather the quality of farming & handling that makes Asian fish exports so undesirable.

I don't really remember eating tilapia anytime recently, but it could have been in a fish taco I ate somewhere, I suppose. Apparently, if you're careful about the country of origin you can avoid most of the bad stuff.

About catfish. I would argue that fresh catfish has very nice, distinct flavor. frick the haters.
