We come down here most summers for vacation (too poor for 30A) and I always forget how ridiculous liquor prices are here. I can get a fifth of Tito’s for $20-22 back home in central MS. Down here it runs about $31-33. Are liquor prices that high all over the state of AL or just down here because it’s a “tourist destination”?

Yeah it sucks throughout the state. State run ABC stores, and other liquor stores have to buy their stock from the state. High prices and shitty selection.

Yeah, it's absolutely insane. We brought a ton of booze from NOLA last month, but as drinking on the beach goes we ran out.

Went to the liquor store and almost passed out looking at the prices - Alabama tax, SIN tax, etc.

I don't know where you're staying, but we always hit the Publix on the other side of Perdido Key. I've never thought the alcohol prices were high there.

Maybe Florida is much cheaper than Alabama.

My observation from a quick beach trip a few weeks ago was that they encourage you to buy the handle It was only $40 while the fifth was $30.

BamaCoaster just ran for office with eliminating the ABC in Alabama on his platform. Basically you can Alabama state cost at the ABC store, all other liquor stores and restaurants get that same price and have to purchase it and put it up the themselves. Most add 35 plus percent on top of that cost. I tell all my Louisiana golf to bring booze from home. Snowbirds have liquor runs to Florida in the winter for booze and lottery tickets.

I bought booze in Huntsville last month, this explains the price increase.

No wholesale discount in AL.

Florabama will pay the same price you pay for the same bottle.

The places along the beach gouge. Publix and other stores not directly on the beach front boulevard have reasonable, Louisiana prices

None are as cheap as Louisiana, went shopping along the panhandle today since it’s rained all day and thought I’d do some bourbon hunting. The prices for some stuff was laughable, Blanton’s for $225? I don’t drink it but found it hilarious, all of the allocated stuff was mind blowing prices but did manage to find some great bottles at retail.

It took them until 2009 to allow most craft beer to be sold. Before, it was banned for too much alcohol under the state law with the lowest limit in the nation.

The 2009 law raised the alcohol limit on beer from 6% to 13.9% by volume. Many Alabamians predicted the end times would follow.

No. It’s just not a big enough deal that it stands out in my mind from year to year. I was mostly just curious if prices like these are statewide or just local to the beach region.
