I've done my share of smoking the usual butts, sausages, chicken, fish, but what out of the ordinary should be tried that commonly might not be considered?

For instance, I'm contemplating smoking some frog legs. Never had them smoked.

Ideas need not be a protein.

I love smoked mushrooms. They make a terrific sauce. Same with smoked tomatoes. Lots of veggies you can smoke and use as sides, in soups or in sauces.

I'll take an invite to that. Sounds excellent.

I've heard of people smoking eggs and honey, not together. Both sounded interesting to me. I would try them.

Tried it once didn't inhale

I smoked some red onions and serrano peppers this weekend. Used the peppers in a chili and diced the onions up for toppings.

Rock Salt.

You can't have anything fatty in there at the same time. That ruins it.

Hmmm...eggs...interesting. I wonder if you can take an egg yolk cooked sous vide and then hit it in the smoker for flavor. Sounds fantastic.

How to smoke eggs One interweb person's take. Thanks for the suggestion.

Same here.

Used to boil them all the time. I got started on them from the old Danny's Seafood on Valence and Magazine.

Interesting as well. I've tried Maldon smoked sea salt which is delicious. I bet you can forgo the water tray as well for best results. Not sure how much fuel I want to burn in order to smoke salt though. Excellent suggestion however.

There's a place in Luling called Birdies Food & Fuel that I just can't pass up because of their turkey necks.

I'll have to research on how to smoke them because it would be hard to take a read with a thermometer being mostly bone. Sounds delicious.

Tomatoes, onions, jalapenos or serranos and make salsa. Gives the salsa a great flavor.

The tomatoes themselves are delicious. Smoked tomatoes topped with roasted garlic, pesto, and mozzarella is one of my go to sides.
