I have to get around in all parts of the city, and the CBD is starting to get a little crazy

(From today @ lunch)

People don't realize they're also getting ready for Mardi Gras
Thankfully Poydras is no longer under construction, and the St. Charles street car is 100%

I drive around all day downtown too...it's going to get really bad tomorrow. Hotels are jumping from 30% to 100%.

I do want to live in NOLA! The best it will get is a second home down there at some point.

With the way things are going this year and our tricentennial celebration I don't see how we don't host it 2018. Would take a serious natural disaster.

I've got to give Mitch and the city credit, I didn't think there was any way that the construction on Loyola, Poydras and Canal would be done in time. But it is.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by this, as well. I know they had a lot of incentives to get it done on time, just happy they were able to pull it through. They avoided a complete nightmare. It was looking kind of dire there for a while.

Yea the city looks great, convention center blvd is unrecognizable from the bud light hotel and the new grand entrance to the convention center.

Today I'm working until about 11, then going get a curbside burger at Barcadia and spending the rest of the day walking around downtown.

Its too bad they can't just, you know, do that all of the time instead of dragging arse for 8 months to fix a pothole down the street (then filling it with gravel that gets knocked out in 4 days). Its been interesting/comical coming in over the last ~3 months or so and seeing them just steamrolling through construction patch-ups everywhere so everything has a fresh layer of paint.

They must have had a slush fund to get everything done. Hell, I'd love to know how much they spent on magnolias and palm trees for the Poydas neutral grounds. I will be spending Saturday down there taking in the scenery.

They're prob going to dig them up after and sell them to someone's shell corp. I was debating making a drive depending on how things shake out at work the next day or two but already planned the first crawfish boil of the year for Sunday so staying here.

My mom is from Nola and my wife is from, well...the north shore. But I think I'm comfortable leaving BR if the opportunity presents itself. You wouldn't have heard me saying this 2 years ago FWIW.

My BIL works at a very prominent restaurant mentioned in this thread and he said its been nuts already. Has had so many celbs in there he honestly stopped caring.

Yeah, on Tchoup they tried speeding through a job only to have to tear it up and do it again right by my sister's place. When I asked why, she told me they had mistakenly paved over the city's manhold covers.

frickin' NOLA!

My moms best friend takes care of one of the big celbs houses in the city. She helps her out a lot with parties or getting the property ready for the next celb that will be leasing the house while in town. They all say the same thing about how cool the people in the city are with them. Nobody really bothers or harasses them while they are out and about around town.
