So my friend who is working in LA right now is planning on proposing to his gf soon. I know they have dinner planned at Commander's that night and he is asking me for a suggestion for a quiet romantic setting to go after to propose.

This is new territory for me. Any ideas?

There is a cemetary across the street.

FYI. If it is night time all the public parks are closed. Audubon and The Fly actually enforce this. City Park has some places (Museum and Peristyle), but can also get packed, but other than the Peristyle and morning call it is technically illegal to be in the park.

At night on the levee in front of the cathedral?

Might not be a bad idea since she's a really active Catholic

Anywhere in the quarter could be quickly ruined by bums and drunks. But, it will probably be perfect in the end.

If they leave Commanders take the streetcar up to Tulane/Audubon park and you can probably walk to one of the fountains with little trouble.

Always thought Exchange Place by Pelican Club was really nice.

City park. A short walk out of morning call is a nice pavilion or area he could propose. Quiet and would be nice. Have to go scout it out.

What about a place for a celebratory cocktail after?

I proposed in the bar at the columns so I suppose they could go there afterwards. I was nervous as hell and wanted to enjoy my expensive dinner so decided to do it beforehand

That's what I told him

Should be plenty of privacy in the courtyard after dinner

Hot Tin Roof. It's an upstairs partially open air bar with a great view of downtown.

Cure is thought to be the best cocktail bar in the city if they want to check it out.

Neither are very far from Commanders.

I proposed before dinner. Told her that my Dad wanted to take us somewhere really nice and he had news to tell us. I speculated he was going to tell us he was getting married so she would be thinking about that instead of possible proposal. We had been dating for 7 years and I had a few months in at my career job so she could have been suspicious.

Had two glasses printed with "Will you Marry Me?" and the date. Proposed at my apartment. Then took her to her Mom's house to see the ring and congratulate her (set it up before).

Then we had a nice dinner at the Grill Room. After dinner, I had her friends meet us at the bar in the hotel.

My advice is do the proposal before dinner. Takes a lot of stress away!

I don't understand this at all. Finding the setting to propose is really more important than the ring at that one moment. I can't believe he's going to leave this up to a buddy to figure out for him. Did she pick the ring out? What's wrong with men these days?

Proposing is the only damn thing you have to do...get it together.
