Such an aweome list. Kind of hard to leave off Gautrue's and Stella. I would have to put one of them over Commanders and Galatoires.

Haven't been there in many years, but I 'd think Gautreau's would be on most lists assembled since the mid 80's.

The current Gautreau's is terrific. Sue Zemanick is really talented.
I have no quarrel with the restaurants listed in the OP, but it's tough to limit the list to ten.

I'd agree...cutting to a clear 10 best is likely impossible.

I've eaten at Domenica three different times, each plagued with mediocre food and terrible service. I would have replaced that with Patois.

Having dined several times at all of the listed restaurants over the years, I would replace La Petite Grocery with Gautreau's, and Cochon with Stella!. While I think LPG is good, Gautreau's is outstanding. I don't know why Cochon is on this list, it's a cool spot, but it's just not the type of restaurant that comes to mind when you're thinking about New Orleans food. Stella! might fall into this category too, but it's outstanding in my opinion.

agreed, domenica is overrated. Borgne is much better.

Wow. We've never had a problem there other than it occasionally being very busy. It's one of my "go to" places when trying to decide where to eat at the last minute or on the way home from something downtown.

Most people I know enjoy it a lot, I've just never had a good experience there. And with so many other great places for me to spend my money, I don't plan on making a fourth trip anytime soon.

I think some of the negative experiences with Domenica have to do with expectations. New Orleans has so bastardized Italian cuisine people forget or don't know what typical Italian food is.
You go in expecting meatballs and red gravy and when you don't find that, you settle for stracci with oxtails and chicken livers and are disappointed.
Satisfaction can be described by a simple equation:
Satisfaction=reality-expectations.
It's easy to see why some have had less than stellar meals there when they don't really know what to expect .

Not sure whether you're making a generalization or accusing me of going to Domenica and expecting to order lasagna and Italian sausage.

Never had a hint of a problem with Domenica's - always had a great experience. Kinda surprised that Upperline didn't make the list. Anderson gave it a fantastic review (and, well deserved) right before he left.

The former would apply. No flame intended I have just noticed a pattern in the comments of people who aren't very kind in their reviews of Domenica. Most often it seems they were not prepared for the type of Italian food encountered here.

Good point. But I still don't think Cochon should be on the list. I think Herbsaint, Link's other restaurant is many times better than Cochon and yes I know it's on the list.

Upperline has had turnover in the kitchen a couple of times in the last few years. Perhaps Anderson didn't have a chance to review the latest iteration of Upperline before compiling his list.

Galatoire's and Domenica have no business on there.
Put on Bayona and Patois instead

I'm a huge Upperline fan. I'll always have them in my top 10.

Favorite restaurant is The Three Muses. Amazing! That and Bacco, but they closed.
