Any recommendations on a local butcher shop that regularly carries premium cuts of meat?

Would love to hear recommendations as well!

"Piece of Meat" but they are closed due to COVID. Some groceries carry steaks labeled "Wagyu" but I dont think they are high enough grade to differentiate from Prime.
You could try online order from Snake River Farms, Allen Bros., etc...

Ok not convinced... I can’t see going to the Tchoup Wally World and walking out with two Wagyu Ribeyes. They probably have one of those theft detectors built in them.
I find it crazy it’s hard to find. There is a shop in Ocean Springs I know that sells local Wagyu and it’s fantastic. But can’t find anything uptown
Also seems that Nola is missing a quality fish market with all the fresh seafood we have around

I am a pretty big food snob when it comes to beef, this is legit, they dont always have it but I check when I go, have not been let down

Wow! Waygu or not that looks like a great steak for the price.

Although not located in New Orleans, they will ship to your door, Snake River Farms. I have bought Waygu cuts for the past 3 years, no complaints.

The Robert's on West Esplanade often has Wagyu New York Strips. Some days the marbling looks incredible like the Ribeye posted above. Other days it doesn't even look like Prime.
Went this past weekend and didn't have any. I would love to find a place that consistently had great cuts like this.

That is a fine steak, but here is what a real A5 Japanese Wagyu Ribeye looks like:
They are also about 10x as pricey.

I order religiously from Hassell Cattle company in Texas. Actually have a shipment coming in tomorrow. Every now and then I order from Snake River Farms when they send me a discount code, but too much competition has crept up recently to pay their ridiculous prices. Porter Road is a good option, Holy Grail Steak always has discounts as well.

agree, mine was American wagyu (@ ~$20/lb), yours looks to be Japanese Kobe Wagyu I am guessing ~$125/lb...both have their places but should not be compared

I think those go for about $150/10oz steak, so around $240/lb. Real A5 Wagyu is pretty expensive and best reserved for very special occasions.
Not sure if OP was looking for authentic A5 Wagyu or just a higher end prime type of American beef. Outside of Piece of Meat on occasion getting some orders, I do not believe anyone stocks the real stuff in New Orleans.

I’m looking for a piece of meat for a special occasion.
I’ve been going to 4 Bulls in Ocean Springs and they have “Mississippi Wagyu” and it’s definitely a cut above any prime I’ve found in the city.
I think strip runs $45/lb ish and the ribeyes a little more
However I consider a market cost steak $50/per steak to be a special occasion piece of meat. I guess I don’t really need the real Japanese thing now
