brand new place i think.
we ate there friday evening early before a show.

cool looking place with a huge bar in the middle of the space. cocktails were excellent, one of the better negronis ive had. we ordered a three-item antipasti, chopped salad, tortellini en brodo and a pistachio-ricotta cheesecake. everything was interesting, well presented and most importantly flavorful. really good stuff

service was also very good and the price was right.
enjoyed it very much

I went Saturday. Loved that Negroni and the Spritz was super refreshing. Had the oyster and artichoke, the tortellini en brodo, the lemon ravioli, and the shrimp with creamed cauliflower.

Everything was delicious. The shrimp dish was smaller than anticipated so if you are hungry over-order as the portions are on the smaller side though not ridiculous or anything.

Its a new place from Link's restaurant empire (Peche, Herbsaint, Cochon and others). haven't been, but looked at the menu today. Was surprised by 2 things: wasn't a ton of items on the menu and its very moderately priced. Looking forward to trying it.

Yeah, it’s Rebecca Wilcomb’s place. There have been several articles on it recently. Lives up to Link group reputation. Great food and beautiful space.

Like I said portions are on the smaller side, so you can try the entire menu with a decent sized group.

Had a function tonight where the food was not worth the calories so I snuck out and walked over to Gianna for my second visit. Really enjoyed it again. Negroni top notch and food was excellent

We ate there this weekend and weren't too impressed. The Good - The space is really nice, cocktails were excellent, and the desserts were good. The Bad - We had a party of 6 and we all did the feed me as our waiter recommended. With the feed me, we got all the antipasto dishes, 3 pasta dishes, 3 entrees and 3 desserts. For the entrees, they brought two swordfish and 1 pork dish. I don't generally like swordfish, this was especially dry. I'm not sure why a restaurant would send out 2 swordfish entrees as part of a tasting menu for a group unless they were just trying to get rid of it. We ate most of one as everyone was trying it but the second order went untouched. I can't say anything was especially good (except the cocktails); there were some things that were ok but nothing I would order again.

I love everything Link does, so I have been wanting to try this place. Currently have a $75 Link gift card from Christmas, so was going to reserve Gianna for a 4 day food trip coming up.

But I checked out the menu this weekend and it’s very meh. The photos on Yelp don’t look super remarkable, and the reviews aren’t all glowing like other Link spots. Think we will skip and do one of the others instead.

Unlike a certain handsy peer in the NOLA restaurant empire-building biz, Donald Link only puts his name on quality people and quality concepts. Does not get the credit he deserves despite all his accolades. Guy is one of the best. Ever.

Ate there a few weeks ago with a couple of friends. Did the family style option and I thought everything was fantastic.

I went opening night and loved it. I haven't read reviews but the portions are small for Americans, and it is definitely not heavy cheese, heavy sauce Italian. It reminded me of my trip to Italy.

I guess I was just expecting some more interesting offerings on pasta like Domenica has. Not to say it probably isn't executed well at Gianna. It just didn't excite me.

I know you know your way around restaurant choices, but why do you let reviews and pictures make your decision on a new restaurant like this?

The reviews didn't do it. I checked out the menu and it was meh to me. So then I went over to Yelp to look at the photos. Plenty of the reviews have been positive, but still nothing stood out to me on the menu. It helps that most of the negative comments (minus a couple) seemed to be from level headed people and weren't just "WAITRESS ROLLED HER EYES - ONE STAR!"

In contrast, Domenica has a fairly unique pasta/entree offering and it has been around a long time. I was surprised to see Gianna had such simple dishes considering I like Link restaurants a great deal. I'm sure they're executed well, just not high on the must try list.

To each their own. Would definitley be trying the new offering if I was going to choose out of a Link Restaurant.

A perfectly cooked traditional meal can be a better experience than something that sounds exciting on paper.

Someone asked me about it recently and I thought the same things you posted when researching.

Lol, no, just found the menu uninspiring. Italy is an intensely regional place, with fairly seasonal cooking....the dishes on the menu are a bit of a hodgepodge. Sure, I’ll try it, but I’m not running down there for capellini with tomatoand basil. I was hoping for less mainstream pasta and a more seasonal menu.

I do love a good caponata, with or without raisins. Managed to eat nine different caponata versions on a weeklong driving trip around Sicily....every version slightly different.

Bump
For any more reviews. Looking at taking a large group to dinner in about a month. Haven’t heard much about this place

It’s a decent spot for a larger group bc everyone can get something different and pass it around. Try a bit of everything. I find it priced pretty well. Beautiful space and restaurant. Menu is executed well, so if it appeals to you I’d trust it

That said, have you been to or considered Paladar 511?

ETA : Gianna is a place you go to once but it’s not like OMG I gotta go back. Paladar warrants multiple visits. Imo
