New crawfish pot question

Have always had crawfish pots handed down to me from my dad or friends but now have a brand new one out the box, do you typically season/cure a new stainless pot like you would a stainless pan or cast iron pot?

Your pot is stainless or aluminum?

Yes rub it down with unsalted butter and set it over a small fire made with pecan or peach wood.

My understanding is seasoning only works for cast iron because it has small pours like a sponge. Steel does not have pours and any "seasoning" in a steel pan/pot is just gunk buildup.

No.
You put an empty crawfish pot over a jet burner you will burn a hole in your pot.

Traditional crawfish seasoning will season the new pot just fine, as long as you add a stock of butter to your boil.
Now if you season the crawfish by boiling, chunking them in a cooler and sprinkling Tony's on them, you've got an entirely different situation on your hands. Might just ruin that pot forevermore.

I broke in a new aluminum Bayou Classic pot for Good Friday.
Didn't do anything to it other than rinse it out a few times before starting the boil.
Everything came out fine.
