I am between houses and left my grill and my smoker at the old place. I am looking for a good quality bbq that I can use as both a grill and a smoker until the new house is ready. Afterwards I want it to serve as a full time smoker.

Any knowledgeable advice would be much appreciated.

Just get an Oklahoma Joe or Char-Griller offset smoker.

grill and my smoker

These are two separate things at my house.

Low end, a Weber 22 inch kettle will grill and small smokes.

Mid-range, a ceramic cooker will grill and small smokes.

High end, large pellet grills can do both with good surface area.

I've never used a stick burner offset that was good for grilling anything other than maybe chicken.

I'd get the Weber kettle, then save for a nice smoker to complement it when you're in your new home.

I've been thru a few cookers in my life time that were cheap but they don't last. It's a fact regardless of price but this is what I'm buying next. It's a grill, offset, reverse flow and now he makes a griddle for the top of the firebox. real steel, Louisiana made all in one unit.

Here's a link to his youtube about the cooker I'm suggesting. LINK

If you want a temporary solution. I would get a Webber Kettle and watch videos on the snake method.

I don’t know what your other grill and smokers are, but just get a BGE or Kamdo Joe. They will do both and are easy to,use. When you get your outdoor space at the new place situated you can build or order a table for the ceramics.

Budget?

If I were getting something to tide me over, I would compromise on smoking ability and then it would then convert to a full time grill. Weber Performer ($$) or Weber 26” or Weber Summit Kamado ($$$). Maybe a PK 360 grill ($$$).

Not sure what a good option is to do the reverse.

The weber kettle is far and away the best answer.

Here are some links to the accessories I have for mine. You can do amazing things with them and they hold temperature really well for low and slow. Don't listen to anyone who tells you any different.

BGE or Kamdo Joe.

Why champion ceramics not made in the US? Primo XL is made in the US and has more grill space.

KJ are made in China. BGE in Mexico

Although I don't have this, people who do rave about it. Get one of these and you'll never need or want any type of a pellet grill. And because your heat source is Charcoal, wood or both, You get a much better flavor.

Or, just get the summit Kamado and have no need to buy any accessories.

They are good cookers, just not what I need/want at the moment. I added a couple holes to mine to run a rotisserie through it, chicken comes out great. I like having dedicated smokers/grills, I really want a yakitori grill to pair with my kettle and my 500.

Well first of all, he doesn't need all that stuff. That's just stuff that I have and secondly, even if he bought all that shite plus a $200 Weber kettle, he's only 740 bones in the hole.

The cheapest Weber Summit will run him about $1250.

Won’t argue this. But you’ll get a better built, better insulated pit that will probably last twice as long.
