Where should they stay, where should they eat, what should they see (besides campus) to get a good feel for Baton Rouge and LSU.
What are the nicest hotels in BR?
Where should they eat lunch and dinner?
Thanks!

Renaissance on Bluebonnet is a nice hotel and not too far from LSU. Either there or downtown.
Maybe somewhere under the Perkins overpass for lunch - City Pork, Overpass Merchant, Kalurah Street Grill, Parrians etc

- Stay downtown, it's close to campus and has some walkable stuff. Check out the riverfront, walk to the state capital buildings, downtown Greenway is awesome if you want to just go walking. Lots of hotels and restaurants downtown. Depending on the weekend, there is bound to be some sort of event (festivals, live after 5, etc).
- Nicest hotels are Watermark downtown and Renaissance on Bluebonnet. They just got finished a brand new Courtyard Marriott Downtown like a month ago, but I have no clue what the inside is like.
- For either, Chimes is a must for anyone considering coming to LSU and their families, especially if you are from out of state.
- Elsie's plate and pie on government for comfort food. Curbside for burgers and a sweet patio. Red Zeppelin for pizza. Overpass Merchant for a casual place with drinks. For a nice dinner, Ruffinos, Mansurs, K St Grill, or Zorbas.
- If you are trying to put together a guide for people that have never been to BR and just want to view the best parts of the city aside from campus, I'd say to drive around the lakes and city park/garden district.

I have stayed at Hilton downtown. It's ok. I go to Baton Rouge once a year and usually stay in New Orleans so I don't know chit about BR anymore.

Sounds like you have it figured out. Tell them that

GeauxPack's recommendations are pretty solid. Watermark is a nice hotel downtown

I would recommend The Renaissance or L'Auberge for places to stay. For lunch, maybe Little Village downtown. For dinner, maybe Mike Anderson's or Parrain's.

What about the Lod Cook hotel on campus? How does that compare to the hotels you listed?

+1 on the Lod Cook hotel on campus. Does the Faculty Club still serve lunch to anyone? That’s a charming spot, if so.

I would stay at the Cook. Great place to start a morning walk around campus. And often there are coaches and athletes eating breakfast with you...really puts you “in LSU” which is what you want a visitor to feel.

I have stayed at Hilton downtown.
Wife and I stayed there for our annual beer share w/ the Krewe and I thought it was "ok" and overpriced for what it was. The breakfast buffet the next morning made up for it.

White Star Market on Government would be a good lunch option, can cater to different tastes.

I would recommend either the Hilton downtown or the Lod Cook Hotel on campus.
For lunch and dinner, I recommend The Chimes for lunch and Roberto's River Road Restaurant for dinner.
Some other great options include:
Pinetta's
Louisiana Lagniappe
Ruffino's
Sammy's
Parrain's
Beausoleil
