Most peeps in my family use one. I'm just the snob that says, "oh yeah, well some people still know how to cook rice,,!!"

Yes, you'll have perfect rice, but with a rice cooker, your rice can be kept warm for a long time and sometimes you need that.

C'mon Darla. If it's gumbo, etouffee, steak gravy, that shite will be hot enough. If you really need the rice hotter, throw a few scoops in a bowl, put a wet towel over it and nuke for a minute, right?

And you'd be hard pressed to find something easier to clean. Is the Pampered Chef model the way to go, or are all microwave models pretty much the same?

Sometimes the lid has to be cleaned with a brush to get into the vent holes. No harder that cleaning a pot though.

I have a large old hitachi and a small cheap10 buck off brand I bought a long time ago at Walgreen's. Love both. Don't care what anyone says about rice cookers. They're great and I agree with Darla on keeping the rice warm.

I appreciate all of the rice cooking recipes, lol, but let's say I am never cooking rice on the stove again for the rest of my life.... are the vintage Hitachi's the way to go? The little microwave pot is just too small for my family.

For someone who will never cook rice again but apparently has a large family I'll just suggest stopping in Whole Foods or your nearest Chinese restaurant and buy your rice already cooked. It is very cheap and eliminates an apparent challenge which allows you to focus more on what is important meaning the dreaded gravy. If this is not conquered I weep for your children.

I use an Oster steamer for a small amount of rice, usually 1 to 1.5 cups.
Been using it for its purpose as a steamer for 2-3 years, tried the rice bowl attachment a few months ago and been using it ever since.
Attached a link showing the model I purchased back then.

History here has it that rice cookers are evil.

I can't imagine not having a rice cooker. I have two. I actually laugh at those without a rice cooker.

I have been using a black and decker rice cooker plus for 3 years. I purchased it from wal mart and it has served me well.

I use it once or twice a month. Besides cooking rice, I love the way it heats up tamales and steams veggies.
