We’ve been hitting the Rodney Strong, Alexander Valley Cabernet for the last couple months.

Just polished off a glass a couple minutes ago.

Meh

You don’t have any French wines listed.

15 E Guigal Cotes Du rhone for around $15 bucks is a great table wine. 14 Coudoulete Beaucastle cotes du Rhône also the real deal for around $20.

I had a bottle earlier in the year. I was underwhelmed. It wasn't bad; it just wasn't particularly good either. Pretty mediocre wine IMO from a producer as great as Guigal.

Had a bottle earlier this year and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's not on my list because even though I only paid about $16 for it, I'm pretty sure it retails for over $20 in my area.

Do I need a Costco membership to buy wines there ? I see that you are in L.A., so this might be more of a Louisiana posters question

In California, no. California state laws prohibit retailers from refusing to sell alcohol to anyone without a membership. The laws vary from state to state and I'm not sure about Louisiana.

Thanks for once again compiling this list. I look forward to it every year, and use it to try some new wines for me. Happy Holidays!

Great list as always.

4. Michael David Petite Petit 2016 (85% Petit Sirah; 15% Petit Verdot) $18 Michael-David is on a roll with this wine. This one is even better than the 2015.

I've been enjoying the Michael David earthquake Sirah. Haven't seen it under $20 though. Usually about $24. I'll have to try and find the Petite petit

Excellent wine, but definitely retails for over $20 in my area.

No Cul De Sac Cab from HEB/Central Market? $2.99

As good as any $20 bottle out there.

It’s only at central market so they have a cooking wine to sell people.

My 20 Favorite Wines of 2018 for Under $20

Nice list. Next time I go out to Cali i'll make a pass by Total Wines and buy a few of your Red wine recs. I favor the Zins. Rombauer being my favorite but its not in the under $20 range. I like the St Amant Zinfandale Old Vine Lodi priced at $18 a bottle.

Also we (wife and I) like Tractor Shed Red from St Helena/Calistoga area. Very good wine. We buy it at a Mexican grocery store on Hwy 29 just south of Calistoga for $14 a bottle.

Then there is good ole Plungerhead Zin. The 2014 year was exceptional and can still be found on shelves here and there. A store near me here in Louisiana has some on the shelf as we speak. I think i'll go buy them all at the $16 price they're asking.

For Chardonnay's we obviously love the Rombauer but for wines under $20 we buy Abbyville Chardonnay. Excellent wine for that price point.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Funny you should mention that. I actually had Plungerhead Zin on my original list, but had to remove it when I realized I had forgotten to make note of the vintage in my notes. I"m pretty sure it was the 2015 that I had, but there's a chance it was the 2016. And so I removed it from the list.

Just picked up a bottle of the castle rock 2016 pinot noir.

An older lady in the pinot section was looking for something new, and I told her that I heard "it was the best pinot you can buy for the money."

She bought 3 bottles

Castle Rock did realy well with the 2016 vintage. I haven't had the Willamette Valley Pinot (the one she has in her basket), but the 2016 Central Coast, Mendocino, and California Cuvee Pinots are all very nice wines for the price.
