I am going to Estes Park in August and I was wondering what some of the must eat restaurants are? Also, is there any must eat food items while I am there? Google wasn't really giving me a lot of answers. Thanks.

Make sure you get ya couple donuts from the Donut Haus one morning. Get there early.

I don’t know, but the old historic lodge in town has a hell of a whiskey bar.

The Stanley.

I ate at this place 2x last September. Need to go early or late, it gets busy. Brisket and "TX sausage" (spare the flack from the naysayers) which were really good and I am a very tough on BBQ critiques. Sausage is on the less fatty side which I like. Sides were excellent. Are you going to RMNP or what?

Smoking Daves

Forgot, ate at this place, it was really good and has good deals during happy hour:

Bird and Jims

We also went to Smokin Daves. It was pretty damn good.

Also, if you want a good breakfast / diner place, go to Notchtop.

Nepals - Nepalese cuisine
Himalayan Curry and Kebob was also good.

Both the places above were dead when we went in there (may just have been the timing and was in January) but both were great.

the cinammon rolls at cinnamons are really good, but be prepared to wait and get in line real early.

the dunraven inn was the best place we found there.

The only places that I really remember are Sweet Basilico, Elk Horn And Smokin' Dave's BBQ. All were pretty good but I wouldn't classify them as must eat restaurants. I would go back to all of them, including Donut Haus if that helps.

Edit: We also ate a place called Grubsteak. It was pretty good too.

Not sure Estes has a great food scene. I’ve heard good things about Bird and Jim and Seasoned but haven’t been to either. If you want good views and pretty decent Mexican food, check out La Cabaña. It’s a rooftop Mexican spot, my gf and I enjoyed it. Also go to the Stanley and enjoy some drinks on the lawn.

You need pie. Yes, that's the name of the restaurant.

Just read some bad news that the Donut Haus will be closing by the end of the year due to the new loop being built and taking in the property.

The food is generally mediocre but that's fairly common out that way.

Came that close but decided on a mexican joint next to the river. I forget the name. Wasn't great though.

Estes really doesn't have great places to eat. Those people have a long history of sustinance eating. Even when they try to develop a good food scene, they struggle. And by "those people" i mean states like Colorado, Wyoming, kansas, idaho etc.

The bbq at Dave’s is pretty good. I do remember going into this wine house and we ordered 2 flights of the local wine. It was GOD AWFUL!

These places are good, but none are destination dining:

Breakfast: Mountain Home Cafe, Notchtop Bakery & Cafe

Other meals: Smokin' Daves BBQ, Dunraven Inn, Twin Owls Steakhouse, Rock Inn Mountain Tavern, Seasoned American Bistro

Drinks: Stanley Hotel, piano bar at Nicky's

Late Night Bar: The Wheel
