Motwani's to reopen Sucre

Sucre was the worst bakery in New Orleans. It was all glitter and glam. The actual food was disgusting. A bakery of Sucre's level should not make it in New Orleans. The only people I knew that liked it were teenagers and people not from New Orleans. Why anyone would buy those terrible recipes is beyond me. Someone should buy Binder's recipes and bakery and reopen it. Sucre is a blemish on our city's great baking history.

The raspberries miss the mark, just as every single item I ever had at Sucre, none more so than Sucre's awful king cake. Everything about Sucre, from the marketing, to the decor, to the boxing, to the display case is about presentation. The substance is empty. I regret that Sucre may even be successful again, thanks to the Instagram world where people care more about the surface than about the substance. Although I am not a huge Chez Pierre Bakery fan, they do everything as beautifully on the surface as did Sucre, but manage to make most things taste okay to good. If you want a pretty pastry, go to Chez Pierre. Sucre is bad, very bad!

I like District. Mother and I sometimes walk to Blue Dot on Saturdays, but honestly, I do not like Blue Dot. The only truly great donuts in New Orleans come from Tastee, but not any Tastee. The Tastee on Loyola in Kenner is consistently exceptional and is vastly superior to all donuts I have had in Portland, Chicago, and New York.
