Palace Cafe is a good call...but most locals do not regard this one very highly.

some locals i know from the Wank and JP swear by Palace Cafe, and i have been more than once with them....it's just ok.

The only better stuff I have found in LA is The Joint in the Bywater. It's a very good place. River Ridge needs more good spots like this.

i'm adding Domilise's and their nasty ketchup soaked po-boys to the list. Also, their roast beef tastes like the slimy cryo-vac packed cold cuts.

Johnny's Pizza too.

I used to think this but I ate there a few Friday nights ago (with reservations made a week in advance) and it was great. I haven't been in a couple of years but it was really a great time with some good food.
