The park is accepting bids for a new 10-year contract on the space. Cafe du Monde and Cafe Beignet, along with Morning Call, are all vying for the space.

That would REALLY suck for the Morning Call people.

If Cafe du Monde wants it they would likely get it.

Keep the Cafe du Monde brand in the quarter.

IMO, Morning Call just fits better there

I agree. But I feel like CDM has the money to outbid the others.

Maybe MC let the Metairie place go so they could make a better bid in the park.

In all reality, if CDM wanted to expand out and open multiple stores (besides the one in the riverwalk) they would have done so long ago. I think they are pretty comfortable with a cash only, constantly mobbed storefront which is always shown on any national TV event.

I see this is a move to just scare up more rent.

They already do. There's one in Metairie, one in Kenner, Lakeside Mall, Esplanade, Oakwood etc.

Not sure if you know this or not, but CDM has 8 locations in the metro area and 10 in Japan of all places. I imagine that they could outbid the others for the location if they want it.

Seeing the number of tourists there, it definitely is a desirable location. Maybe less attractive for CDM than the others since they already get most tourists in the quarter.

Seems Morning Call's original decision to abandon the Quarter years back was rather short-sighted. Cafe Du Monde appears to have won the long game here.

Sadly, I've always preferred Morning Call's coffee AND beignets.

I go to that Morning Call a lot.
What is the reason for them having so many strange and rude people working there?

And the malls? Because I think both Lakeside and Oakwood have one.

I feel bad for the MC folks, but CDM is far superior for my taste.

Article says CDM decided to bid bc City Park dropped its 24 hr requirement. IMO it would be a huge mistake to limit the hours. Not many safe places teens can hang out late at night, after a movie etc...

CDM may even overpay if it means potentially killing off MC.

Well that may change things. Malls are dying so maybe get out of that business.

I actually would like to see that casino bring in a food vendor that sold more than beignets. A picnic comissary in their (like a st. James with sandwiches, wine, cheese, snacks) would be great, in addition to a beignet coffee spot. It’s a huge building

I think the malls have more in common with the FQ than City Park

I'd bet that there has never been a time when more people are coming to the Casino building. Unless of course, if it ever were to BE a casino.

It's really not as big as it seems from the outside. Those overhangs make it seem much bigger. And for most of the year, you don't want to eat outside.

It’s big. You could have three or maybe four good stalls in there. Now that’s a spot for a food hall.
