I actually would like to see that casino bring in a food vendor that sold more than beignets. A picnic comissary in their (like a st. James with sandwiches, wine, cheese, snacks) would be great, in addition to a beignet coffee spot. It’s a huge building

That morning call sells food as well, and I believe even some alcoholic drinks.

Anyone been to Cafe Beignet? I know they had a couple of places in the quarter, and just opened up a larger location in Jax Brewery. I haven't been though... was wondering how it compared to MC and CDM

Update:The bids were opened:

quote:

According to the report, Morning Call pledged more in rent than the other two beignet stands, but the bids also include “landscaping, build-out and decor, marketing and other aspects of their business plans,” which officials will consider in making the decision.

According to the Advocate:

"Morning Call submitted the highest bid, promising a marginally higher percentage of revenue than its competitors. However, Morning Call missed a mandatory pre-bid meeting; as a result, City Park's management recommended the next highest bidder, which was Café du Monde."

How the hell does this happen on such an important bid? Inexcusable.

I have no horse in this race, but I have worked on both sides developing and reviewing large public-private proposals. From my experience even if this is true that alone isn't enough to bypass the best proposal. I'm not saying anything unethical or criminal happened with this decision, but behind the scenes politics definitely are involved!

It's New Orleans. I can assure you that something both unethical AND criminal happened with this decision.

No doubt. But from MC's perspective, you would think they would try to dot every "i" and cross every "t," especially if there is litigation, which there probably will be.

A meeting can easily be deemed mandatory and all the parties would not exactly be aware.

True, except this is the text from the actual notice of bid: "There will be a mandatory pre-bid meeting on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 10:00am in the Board Room in the City Park Administration Office for all interested bidders."

When I was in college, we had a final that was 75% of our final grade. The professor told us that we had to be there to take the final and there would be no make up exams. Someone in the class, who had aced the previous two tests during the semester, didn't show up. He didn't set his alarm or something. He got a "0" on the final and didn't get to graduate until he took the entire class over again.

My point: when shite is this important, be there by any means necessary. Set 10 reminders, if you have to. I'm not mad at CDM for getting MC outta there. MC has no one to blame but themselves.

Morning Call apparently repeatedly dropped the ball. To begin, the contract was terrible to apparently not include renewing the lease on more favorable terms. They bet on themselves to turn the spot around, they did, and they left themselves open to the whole bidding process to even begin. Then you don't show up at a meeting? What'd they expect?

Unsurprisingly, the comments sections other places are a cluster. "Here's the language that bids are judged solely on dollar amount" Great, but those bids need to be valid to be considered. "City Park is a money grabbing business." People don't understand that all components of the park, including the free public spaces, have expenses. "Boycott City Park!"

It was marked update long before the winning bid was announced. Deal with it.

Why would I change my original post? I changed the title to tell the updated story.
