mobile AL eats and drinks

Enjoyed our stay there for the billy 2021 show. I’ve always thought it’d be nice to live in the sticks out near Saarland. Saw some good shows at Soul Kitchen over the years

Mobile is a nice city, respectfully. I have no hate towards them but I believe it’s rated properly.

You can’t compare it to New Orleans. It has 180,000 people while New Orleans has 1,000,000 people.

If you combine Mobile, Birmingham, and Montgomery, you still have only have 600,000, far less than New Orleans.

You are correct. I see the Mobile metro population is listed at 430,000 while NO metro is 1,000,000.

Crime statistics may be unexponential, I don’t know. But my point is, you can’t expect New Orleans to be the same as Mobile.

Now, I’m not saying NO is doing it right. I’m just saying it’s like comparing an MLB team to a minor league team. It just doesn’t give you the proper view.

I do enjoy stopping in downtown Mobile for a meal or near the battleship when I’m passing through. It’s like a mini 1-hour vacation.

Mobile downtown is great and food is awesome during the day and early evenings. Gets a bit dark in places after 9pm but same can said for Nola.

Noja, royal scam, and dumbwaiter are also good.

There are some other good looking spots farther down dauphine.

Whats weird about mobile is everyone dresses up in suits and jackets to go eat.

Mobile is a miserable city. It is unsafe, the drivers are unskilled and rude, and the traffic is painful. Its king cakes are even worse than its Mardi Gras celebration.

Its downtown is meant to jargogle passerbys to assume it is a city of prestige and import, ideas that are laughable to anyone with time spent in Mobile. Its midrise 20th century fogscrapers are ugly and the bombastic spires are a predictable crowning for the peasants who claim to have invented Mardi Gras, an obnoxious and absurd and false claim. A drive down old Government St is all one needs to see the opulence of old Mobile. What a dilapidated place. Its money moved to the Eastern Shore, but even there I cannot tolerate for more than a few hours. Do not bother with the renovated Grand Hotel.

Gulf Coast Alabama has mastered destroying lump crab meat with their terrible West Indies crabmeat. Their attempts at poorboys, Debris included, are undeserving of the name.

If you enjoy European fare I would recommend Osman’s, a jewel in a sea of dross. It will remind one of small bistros set in small spaces that were quite popular in the 70s and 80s but have since fallen out of favor with modern diners. Mother, Uncle and I were seated next to Jeff Sessions at Osman’s the last time we ate there, nearly a decade ago.

I do hope, dear friend, your stay in Mobile is safe and as brief as possible.

I used to think Mobile was a tunnel. But stayed there (Spring Hill area) for a couple of nights in March. One of the most spectacular stands of live oaks I've seen. Just beautiful.

Seemed safe and clean for the parts I saw. Ate at Original Oyster House near the bridge. Stuffed flounder was very good.

I would never recommend someone visit NOLA now. Mobile - without hesitation.
