The little lady bakes on occasion and has mentioned getting a stand mixer so I'm going that route for xmas.

I cook a lot but am not much of a baker, not real sure what to be looking for. I know kitchenaid is the standard, but quickly realized there's a lot to choose from.

She doesn't need something professional, she may bake twice a month at most, more or less just need to know where that line is between junk and functional. TIA

Just get that. So many attachments to add you could do a lot with it.

Kitchenaid's range from $189 to $500+, hoping to hear where in the range I need to be to where it's capable but not running a bakery.

Not that exact one, but I use my tilt head KitchenAid weekly and have no complaints.

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on it. Is there any life-changing difference in the tilt-head?

The tilt-head might fit under the cabinets better if that matters to you. This thing is too much of a pain to lift and put back in the pantry when you aren't using it.
Artisan also comes in a million colors.

I did. If anyone else is looking, ebay has the same deal through bestbuy with free shipping. Saved me a few minutes entering payment and address. Thanks all.

The tilt-head Artisan line is smaller, less powerful, and (usually) cheaper than the Professional line.

The 6qt lift model has a better motor so it should last long.

I bake bread pretty regularly and the 6qt is adequate but not exceptional. I don't think I'd use the tilt model to frequently make bread.

Yes, bowl lift mechanism is better than tilt head, like you said. You never know if OP's wife might get the baking bug, after she gets a good mixer.

If you want to gild the lily, buy an extra bowl, or a beater blade.

Got my girlfriend one on Black Friday. I think I've gained a few pounds since. Same one as the link but paid $230 on Black Friday for it.

My grandmother bought each of her grandkids a tilt head kitchenaid as wedding gifts. We’ve had ours since 2003 and it still works great. That being said, I’ve done a few things in there when I wished I had the pro model. Mainly mixing meat and heavier doughs when it starts to shake a little when starting it up.

My 6qt lift model still shakes when doing bread doughs even on level 2.

Bought a 5 qt Artisan for $220 on Black Friday for a gift. I looked at several reviews and comparisons, I saw multiple people on reddit with lift-up Professionals saying that they regret not getting the tilt-head version, and counter/storage space was also a factor.

Edit: as far as handling tougher doughs with the more powerful motor, there didn’t seem to be an overwhelming difference in reviews until you reach the Pro Line series at a higher price point.

I have the 600 Pro Line.

The 7qt Pro is probably what I really need but its MSRP is $700.
