Rand Owens died Feb. 29 at his home at age 33. Relatives say his cause of death has not been confirmed. In addition to his two Mid-City Pizza locations, Owens also owned the Banks Street Bar, a longtime corner bar and music venue across the street from his first pizzeria.

Rand was a legend, knew him since 2009 when he was promoting shows in BR with his company Idea Stream. Him and his best friend bought and operated the old Tiger Bar for a short time around 2010-2011ish, and actually brought a bunch of pretty good talent in for a little while, when there was currently nothing going on in BR in regards to live music. Everyone was his best friend and he was never in a bad mood. RIP, NOLA lost a GOAT

man, I haven't thought about Boombox in a long time. Seems a bunch of my NOLA friends and mentioning him this week, did he overdose or something? Sucks either way

There are a lot of ugly rumors floating around Facebook which I will not post here. They are waiting on an autopsy to confirm cause of death though.

Well, it's one of two things. Sad either way.

We were never close, and I haven’t seen him in years, but the news hit me pretty hard, regardless. He was a good guy.

The Big G show he was able to get at the Box was huge at that time. It was before they were big names in music festivals.

Rand lived larger than life. He will be missed by many, many people.
