It’s interesting no one has said Commanders. I don’t think it’s a Michelin star in the traditional sense, and honestly the service is overrated, but it will probably get some recognition

There was a rumor a year or two ago they would create a separate "Legends" category and bucket some of the New Orleans classics that didn't necessarily make the cut. Don't believe that would really actually happen, but could absolutely see them and a few others being left off.

Commander's definitely could. The food is good but not traditionally near michelin quality imo, but its good enough. The service, ambience, tradition, and name recognition are all hugely on point, and now that Stars keep getting watered down more and more with Michelin expanding to new territories, it certainly could.

The other suggestions like the Husky (which I like!) are totally absurd. BG? Sure, possibly.

I have not been to R'evolution since they remodeled so I can't comment. I also haven't been to Fins since they remodeled. I've always had a very low opinion of Fins and think it was incredibly outdated and overrated, but maybe with the remodel they can get on the list.

We are also probably downplaying Acamaya a bit too much.

It is getting serious national praise and making best of lists in big time magazines and whatnot, so they are almost certainly in play.

Care to expand on why you think that? When's the last time you've been? I know sometime last year they rolled out a tasting menu specifically geared for Michelin attention. I've been to multiple 1 star restaurants that RR would definitely beat out.

I haven’t had that tasting menu but would definitely give it a shot. I don’t think RR sucks or anything. They definitely have some excellent dishes but I definitely don’t think it’s a Michelin experience:

Menu is too expansive and that leads to hit and miss dishes. Not to mention dishes that are too basic for Michelin standards. Shrimp and grits? I’m sure it’s good, but not within the spirit of the awards.

Also, I just feel like at heart it’s a gaudy hotel restaurant that tries too hard. I just can’t see a place where drunk tourists are leaving half drunk plastic cups at the bar as the sort of place that gets recognition.

Emrils, Dakar and Saint Germain all seem to be likely.

The Kingsway seems like a potential, but maybe not around long enough. LPG always got love from Hames Beard so maybe they still garner that attention. Acamaya, nah. Mosquito Supper Club is just Louisiana version of Dakar, so it should, but it wouldn't surprise me for them not to. N7 maybe on the cusp. Saint Claire? Anyone been?

Maybe they end up just BG, but I think we could get something strange in there like Ayu or Lagniappe.

I think it might be a little difficult for them to get on the Star list because Michelin primarily focuses on food, and the food there is secondary to the cocktails.

I can certainly see them mentioned somewhere, and Michelin has many cocktail clubs that serve food listed I believe on the other mention lists

Apparently Michelin has separate categories with Top Cocktail Awards and The Pinnacle Guide for cocktail lounges

The issue with Kingsway, Saint Claire, and even potentially Acamaya are their newness. There was a flurry of major restaurant remodels, menu overhauls, even complete restaurant spin-offs (ie Wild South from Coquette) that happened between 2023-2024 specifically for aiming to get a star. I think anything that opened mid/late 2024 or later won't make the initial cut and will be added in following years.

I still don't get the Dakar hype
Admittedly I haven't been, but I've read all the reviews, looked at menus, etc

Can somebody please explain to me why they should get a Michelin and why I should go?

Which they absolutely should/ will get. I went the other night and the food menu looked wild. You don’t hear much about it but it is ambitious and different to say the least.

I haven't been there. I have heard its good but it does not interest me.

I think with the national hype, the uniqueness of what they are doing, and some small politics involved does get them a star.

100%

I haven’t been either, but I do plan on it at some point. But from what I have seen in pictures and reviews, the bang for your buck ratio is far, far lower than comparable restaurants.

They have all been scrambling when they found out they were coming. New Orleans is now going to be even more pretentious

I don't get the hype around Acamaya. Everything I had seemed not to be executed that well. I wouldn't be surprised if it got a star considering all of the national praise, and the Michelin stars being less prestigious.

Have been and honestly can't say it is a must do.

The "experience" is really good. The chef/owner is personable and puts out a good product. Nothing was so incredible that I want to go back, but i enjoyed pretty much everything when I went.

Why might they get a star? Likable black man from Africa who has gotten a lot of press cooking African food in an upper scale setting.

It’s 2025. That’s just the name of the game these days.

Why should you go? Can’t say one way or another. I enjoyed it, but I’ve had far better meals for the price. Depends on how easily you blow money on meals.

Same. Had the feel of a generic restaurant that elevates typical food.

It is above average no doubt, but nothing to get all the hype it does.

Emril's will certainly get one and potentially two starts. I've been to 7 two star restaurants in NY, Chicago, DC, and LA. Emril's certainly falls within that league.

I can see St. Germain also getting a star. Barely Swine in Austin picked up a star last year. These two restaurants are similar, but I would rate St. Germain above Barley Swine.

I think there will be many Bibs passed out.

Same feeling on Acamaya. Just didn’t leave thinking “man I need to go back there”

What’s going to be hard is you have St. Germain and Emeril’s shooting for what would be multiple stars elsewhere (food, wine, service). So if they get one star, there is a massive gap between other spots in New Orleans. But then again surf club in surfside, FL has one star and I thought that was a very great restaurant. Maybe a shade below TFL.
