I'm no chef, and my people must know it. So when I asked what I can bring, "how about you bring some wine?" ok... suggestions? "most of us like merlot, but there might be a white wine drinker or two"
Hmm.. what now? (I mostly drink beer and bourbon, so... no clue!
I'm thinking several bottles in the $7-15 range. Really no clue?
I'm in the BR area. Suggestions?

Go check out 3tails connected to the White Star Market. Best wine store in town by FAR and you can give anyone who works there your budget and have them pick winners.
They sell a lot of wine that nobody else carries. Unique styles and brands.
All bottles have the price written on them in paint marker so you won’t be shocked. They won’t carry $7 bottles, but you should be able to find some between $10-$15.
If you're buying a really large quantity and can't do a bunch of $10-$15 bottles, Trader Joe's has cheaper wine though it will be a madhouse tomorrow. If you're going to a regular store, Bogle does solid wine in the $8-$10 range.
Otherwise, there aren't too many wines below $10 that are all that good to me. Especially for a special holiday. Plenty in the $10-$13 range though!

Wow! That's a very good tutorial.
I'll have to look up the White Star Market. I wanna knock this out early tomorrow.
Not a big deal between 7 and 10. Just buy a little less.
Pretty sure they'll all have a bottle or two in their car. Or they can hit the real stuff.

A Beaujolais nouveau is seasonal and light.

Agree with the Bogle rec. Another that is in the $10 range, La Vieille Ferme wines from Perrin (French wines with the white chicken on the label). Another is Chateau St. Michelle from Washington. Consistent good wines under $15. Also Columbia Crest from Washington

When it gets cold and it's the holiday season, get a Zinfandel red wine.
Or a Malbec.
I guarantee.

Know your audience.
I fall back on a dry Riesling or a Pinot Grigio/Gris. I despise Chardonnays and sweet whites.
An interesting compromise might be a Gruner Veltliner from Austria or a Gewurtstramminer. Whites from Austria can be about $10-$15 for a liter bottle. Or just a couple of bottles of champagne/dry sparkling white.

Merlot hasn’t been popular for 20 years.
Get a Pinot Noir to go with the turkey.
Underwood is great for 10.99, but Walnut City or A to Z is better for $17-20

Also, scrap the white for a Rosé. Can’t go wrong with Rosé.

You're Not Going to Believe I'm Saying This, But Merlot Is Back
I don't drink Merlot either - I know next to nothing about it.

Velvet Devil is great 10.99 Merlot.
More like 15 but people don’t even get the Joke in sideways.
He shits on merlot and cab franc and his prized bottle Cheval Blanc which is mostly Merlot and Cab Franc.

You like Riesling and Pinot Grigio and don't like sweet wines.

The $8.99 Chateau St Michelle DRY Riesling is as great as a value you will find in white wine. Harder to find. Saw it at Zuppardos in Metairie.
I’m really enjoying the Boucaner that BlackenedOut made in Oregon. It should pair pretty nicely with turkey etc. in that price range too.
Don’t get the merlot hate. If such thing as a Pinot Noir Lobbyist exists, they did one hell of a job producing Sideways

I see St Michelle riesling all over but idk if it’s dry
King Fu girl (same winemaker as velvet devil) is a great Riesling. Not the driest but not sweet
And if you like dry Riesling you need to check out Txakolina if you see it.

Easy cheat code for white wines- the higher the alcohol content, the dryer the wine. Moscato, Chardonnay, sweet Riesling, etc are around 8-10% whereas dry Rieslings will approach 12-13%.
