I will be meeting up with family this Sunday to celebrate my wife's birthday. Would appreciate some feedback . Preferably seafood or just an interesting place.

The new Chimes in Lafayette is a neat looking space. If the weather is nice, the outdoor area would be enjoyable.

I wouldn’t recommend anywhere in Opelousas. Maybe steamboat warehouse or cafe Josephine if you don’t want to do Lafayette.

Sunday will limit your options. If you have to eat in Opelousas, Soileau's Dinner Club is about it. Decent for Opelousas, below average when compared to Lafayette establishments. Service can be slow. Been around since the 1930's and not the best part of town.

Prejeans in Carencro / I-49 is under new ownership and has improved some of the older menu items. They do sell boiled crawfish and charbroiled oysters if that's on your short list. Touristy, and a Cajun band plays music at times which is unique & entertaining. Food is good, not outstanding compared to the early 90's when Chef Graham was in the kitchen.

Don's Seafood Hut on Johnson Street. Will likely be packed like rats since it's in the middle of Lafayette, open on Sundays, and lots or regulars eat there after morning church. Service can also be slow when it's packed. Charbroiled oysters are solid with a large menu and variety of seafood dishes.

Fezzo's has pretty decent food but located in Scott or Broussard. If choosing between the aforementioned, I'd probably do Prejeans based on location, and people from out of town will enjoy the food. Locals eat elsewehere since there are better options, especially Mon-Sat. Others will chime in with their .02 cents

Lafayette is actually better. We would be driving over from Baton Rouge and my daughter is headed back to Houston so it is more convenient.

Little Big Cup in Arnaudville, about 30 mins outside Lafayette but would be a cool setting to celebrate her birthday. Would need a reservation.

Five downvotes for this recommendation. I’ll discount three as my regular haters (hey y’all), but five makes me wonder what y’all don’t like about Southern Social?

Palace Cafe in Opelousas. Iconic. But not eclectic, expensive or chi chi. If you want to impress your in laws go there. If you need to impress yourself go elsewhere.

Like Dwyers in Lafayette.

We had a family get together at Don's about 1.5 years back and it very good. Would gladly go back.

Had one at Prejeans about 6 years (?) ago and it was a letdown. Glad to hear it's under new mgmt.
