Long Bridge Brewing is opening their first brewery in downtown Abita Springs. Guy starting it went to LSU and won the people's choice 3 years in a row at Nola on Tap. This is exciting bc their beer is awesome.

So Abita will now be the second best beer in Abita?

I'm not the owner, I met him a couple of times at Nola on Tap, just excited for a new brewery to open with good beer. Follow them on Facebook, that's how I found out.

Apparently the housewives are all up in arms about this since a local grocer is getting booted out of the space he bought in the process.

Beer, did you not read the mans post?

Their coffee stout has won the NOOT popularity contest three years running.

Always good to see another local brewery open.

I thought that building has been for sale for a while. It's not like he evicted someone.

They brewed my favorite beers at two festivals a few years back - one at Zapp's and one at NOOT. Both were some sort of coffee stouts and were incredible. Glad to see these guys opening a brewery and I'll be seeking it out.

His coffee stout is really good. We'll see how it translates from a homebrew setup to a commercial one though.

Nice guy. I've met him a few times, both at beer festivals, as well as at beer releases at local breweries.

I love the many different breweries that have been opening over the recent years in Louisiana. I hope they do well. I'm sure it's a tough business. Have to be very creative to keep up with the craft drinkers these days. Best of luck to them.

Only one that has it easy is Tin Roof. Because if you make something purple and gold around BR it gets bought

I know the family, particularly his dad and brother. Good people. I live in Abita and they are up in arms. Seems like a lot of citizens are uninformed about the situation. They're making it sound like this brewery is pushing out a local landmark. Artigues has only been there for 8 years and the owner has had a purchase option on his desk for a year but wouldn't sign it. The owner has given him plenty of time to purchase the building. I'm hoping the brewery does well.

The local store that's done so poorly the space has been up for sale for over 3 years? Bet if one followed the money, Abita is behind the grumbling. They don't want to have to be bothered by needing to make decent beer.

This is a good friend of mine's nephew, and he said his beers are really good.

But they need to be. Competition should be driving the quality of the beer up. It seems that Abita is probably the only brewery in the state who's sales are driven more by advertising, rather than by beer quality and being a local neighborhood business.

How long did it take after Parish upped their game with GitM for Brightside, Devil's Harvest, Grace and Grit, and others to step it up? And most importantly, Abita dropped Jockamo completely...

Hopefully, this new place will try to compete for the best beer and not just to be a local brewpub with mediocre beer. If their beer is as good as y'all say, they will pretty much be forced into expanding to meet demand, and they will be the talk of this board. If their beer is not good, then they will probably stay in business just by selling to locals, but you won't hear about them much around here.

Devil's Harvest

I for one have greatly appreciated the Envie and Devil's Harvest back and forth. Drank more of these 2 in 16 than any other beers
