Have any of you ever tried boiling lobster like you would crawfish or crabs? Wanting to try it one day but not sure on the boil/soak time. Any advise?

I have personally never tried it, but talked to people who have, and they say don't except much boil flavor.

They don’t soak up the seasoning well

I had the same thought after visiting Maine, but I've seen folks here and elsewhere say the lobsters don't take the seasoning. If you soak a long time to try to get it in, they get tough.
Somebody try it anyway and report back.

A friend of the family a few years back said something about puncturing the shell in various places to help soak up the seasoning, but I haven't seen him in years. Growing up in South Louisiana and passing the lobster tanks at the grocery store always had you wondering what it would be like lol.

I've done it. Picked up some 1.5-2lb lobsters from restaurant depot. They don't get much flavoring. I think it's just the texture of the meat. Seems too dense. So I dumped liquid from the head into a little bowl next to the butter. Dipped each bite into that liquid then the butter. It was the only way I got much seasoning and was pretty good. For $7/lb that we paid I would much rather crawfish, crabs, or shrimp. But I wouldn't discourage anyone trying it at least once for fun.

could you inject it with seasoning before boiling?

As others have said the lobster will not soak up seasoning like crawfish. I'd rather split them and grill or thermador them.

I cooked 2 last night and they do not soak up seasoning well. What pound you got?

Done it once. Had 10 - 1.5lb lobsters. Boiled for 10 minutes, and soaked for 30. Didn’t pick up the crab boil like I thought it would have, but not bad either. Lesson learn would be use more seasoning. I did hear puncture the shell to allow juices to be absorbed.

Didn't get any yet. Just wanted to know it was even worth doing. Maybe one weekend after a few beers my dumbass will head to rouses and pick up a few

Try boiling them until their almost done, take them out cut in half and drop them back in for a few minutes. They may soak up more seasoning this way. I'm gonna try this method next time, be careful not to overcook. Does Rouses sell Maine lobster? or just the small warm water lobsters?

I figured this would happen when you said they were 2.5lbs. Most people get all excited about large lobsters, but anyone from Maine will tell you you want the 1-1.5lb guys.

I've had it where they were punctured just before throwing them in. They were still pretty bland.

I boiled one for about 20 minutes and steamed the other for about 22 minutes. The people that sold me the lobsters gave me a approximate weight between 1.7 and 2.5 lbs, not exact weight so they were a little chewy
I should've listened to the good folks on the FD board and grilled them, live and learn I guess.

boiling will 1) be chewy and 2) mask the natural flavor. People from LA see a lobster and think it's just a jumbo crawfish, they can do the same thing. It's like looking at different cuts of beef. You don't boil lobster.
