I have learned to not necessarily write off a cigar after a bad first impression. I will try another from a different box or vendor to make sure it just wasn’t a one off. Now if I just don’t like the cigar taste so be it.

Definitely check out the tupperdors for a cheap and easy way to store your cigars. Throw one of these in from Boveda and you’re good to go. I use those for my humidity control instead of the bricks most humidors come with.

When people say you need to season your humidor, they mean rub distilled water over any exposed wood on the inside. I usually do this every day for about a week with a new humidor. Make sure you never use anything but distilled water also.

I personally like the look of the glass top boxes, but you have to be careful about sunlight with those. I bought this stand up cabinet style humidor from Thompson Cigar about a year ago and it’s awesome.

I've never been disappointed in any $20+ cigar I've gotten from Piper's haven. The main difference is that many of those cigars are longer smokes, like 2-3 hours.

The guys at the shop smoke all day long. They probably don't want such a long smoke all at once. So, to them, a $23 Opus X that takes over 2 hours to smoke isn't worth it over a similar $12 Arturo Fuente Don Carlos. And, they're probably right.

Personally, I limit myself to one cigar per session. I won't light up that second cigar, no matter how much I want it. So.. I tend to buy better smokes on occasions that I know I'll have time to sit out and enjoy it.

For special occasions, absolutely get the expensive cigars from Pipers. You can be sure it's in good condition. I wouldn't buy a $20 cigar online. Even from trusted sellers, you can't be sure how it'll arrive. That's just me.

While I love to support local shops in prinicple, cigar buying is one where I go online. The price differences are just too great to justify. I use Famous Smoke, and I have had mostly great experiences with them. I did have an issue where a shipment was lost in the mail and they tried charging me for it, but after speaking with a manager they rectified it. He was apologetic for the initial rep's lack of action as well. I thought that was pretty upstanding.

I do still buy some from local shops when I want to try a new brand or style, but I only buy singles from them. Like you I am still very new to cigars and am learning as well.

A lot of great information and feedback thanks for all the input fellas and while I agree about supporting local shops definitely will take a look online and do some shopping, did sign up for Thompson cigar and get about 12 emails a day from them
But the deals seem solid but I need to just do my research before jumping in with both feet and regret some decisions
Always thought it was an easy process with cigars could not have been more wrong!
Thanks again for the help

Not sure about your options but it’s always good to figure out the local shops ways of updates. The shops around me have rep days where you can pick up pretty good discounts to try their products along with door prizes.

You’ll get magazines every few weeks once you place an order. Check out Cigars International for samplers. That’s a good way to figure out what your taste preferences are. This CAO sampler they’ve got going right now is a good deal. I snagged two.

Flavors are very nice
Paired up some WT, happy place after work

This is in Lafayette? I may have my BIL ship me up a few. I’ve found that most respectable brick and mortar places have really good house blends.

I’m smoking a CAO MX2 for the first time and they knocked it out of the park again. CAO never disappoints.

Smoking a brick house Corona larga. It’s smoking tougher, and feels a little softer than usual. I need to move my humidor to a cooler spot in my home.

Dang summer heat.

Went with a Perdomo Habano and a nice glass of Noah's Mill.

So far this one of the better Perdomos that I have had.

I’m a huge fan of Perdomo. Their four pack deal for $24 is a great deal.

Anyone ever smoke a Drew Estate Factory Smoke Maduro? I’ve been really impressed. It’s considered a cheapo, but it doesn’t smoke like one. Great everyday stick.

I haven't, but their Undercrown Maduros are good.

I'm smoking an Undercrown Sun Grown this afternoon.

Still looking for my wheelhouse but glad to know this is available local

Having some sort of Olivia.

As much as I know the Perique cigars are probably frowned on by the elitist crowd. I really like them. Spicy taste and really robust.
