No pics but, this past weekend, I had an Ashton VSG Spellbound, which is a 7.5 X 54.
Smoke lasted for about 2.5 hours, nonstop.
It would leave 1-1.5" ashes
I v-cut the tip initially and got a little tar on the draw about 1/4 way into the smoke. Hit it with the full guillotine and didn't have the tar problem again.
However there was a little canoe going on right at the beginning of the 2nd half but I attribute it to wind, or the initial v-cut being off center. Sliced off the canoe and it burned evenly all the way down to the cap.
Great cigar, was a real treat. Would buy again, but need to set aside a good chunk of time to enjoy the smoke.

Do you find any advantage to V cutters? I've seen people say it doesn't leave much room for error, but I've never used one myself. I'm curious why V rather than guillotine

If only I was cool enough.

Something tells me that a pre embargo Romeo y Julieta Churchill couldn’t make you cool.

Personal preference. When I guillotine cheap cigars, I find I'm spitting out wrapper with every other drag. I don't get that with the V cutter. I prefer a V-cutter over a punch because sometimes the punch pushes the cap back into the cigar and screws up the draw. It also creates a better draw than a punch. (IMO)
I prefer a guillotine on large, well conditioned cigars, and small ring gauge cigars of all types.
My Factory Smokes get the V.

I don't keep cigars long enough to need a humidor. If its brown it's down.

I like collecting and looking at them as much as I do smoking them

Interesting. My wife likes Tatiana infused, and I find those very difficult to cut properly. It's hard to see the cap, and I find myself often cutting too much off or not enough. I can see the V being good for this.

About to head to the shop to pick up a cigar or two. Dang decisions.
I end up in there browsing and enjoying the aroma for quite some time.

A good trick to avoid that is to lay your guillotine cutter open on a counter, then place the cap in the cutter and shut it. The counter will block you from cutting too much off

First off, you're wrong.

This is good advice. I’ve done this a few times, but always felt I didn’t get a good draw. Maybe it’s psychological
I’ve got a Xikar V-cutter coming in the mail. I’ve never used anything other than guillotine really, so I’m curious to see the differences.

This is especially true for the displayed Xikar cutters.
I use a two-bladed guillotine, and I start small, try to get just the middle of the top layer of the cap. I can always cut off a bit more, but I can't put any back.

I usually have no issue with the Xikar pictured.
If it's a tight draw after, most likely is a plugged cigar or just rolled too tightly

Old Mad Joy from Great Raft. Baltic Porter coming in at 8%
Rocky Patel LB1
A medium-body, the blend starts with fillers grown in Condega and Esteli Nicaragua on Patel’s own farms. A heavy ligero from the Jamastran Valley in Honduras is added for character, and it’s all tied together with a gorgeous Ecuador Connecticut wrapper.

I'm finishing up this Liga. What a great day

In all seriousness and good ball breaking, I quit after one pal lost 3/4 of his tongue and jaw to mouth cancer and another lost his voice box from throat cancer. Scary stuff. As much as I enjoyed it, it just wasn’t worth the risk, even w/o inhaling.

No need to be a prick and be condescending.
In all seriousness, sorry for your pal's health issues related to cigar smoking. How many cigars did they smoke each day? Did they smoke cigarettes, dip tobacco at that time and was that related to their oral cancer?
