Why discuss this in a thread about recipes and what seafood you cook at home?

It’s very simple. The OP brought religion into this by including the word Lent in the thread title. Fair game. If they just asked for simple seafood recipes then we wouldn’t be having this conversation, would we?

You’re wrong. If you have no suggestions, you shouldn’t post. You have an opinion on religion that was not requested. You contributed nothing that the thread requested. You felt it necessary to inject your opinion on Catholics. Do that elsewhere.
Stay off this board.

Does anyone here make salmon cakes with canned salmon?

I see lots of videos of folks making them and the cakes themselves look good. The canned salmon does not, but then again, I love canned tuna.

My grandmother is not Catholic but she used to make salmon croquettes with canned salmon for my grandad and for her brother when they were alive, I'll see if she still has her recipe handy. I would drive into town in Greensboro, AL with her brother, my great uncle, on Wednesdays to eat at the cafe because that was salmon croquette day.

My mom did. We called them salmon patties, not croquettes. Ruined me on salmon for a long, long time.

We did not have any protein in it but last night my wife and I tried the baked boursin pasta and it was delicious and very simple.

2 packages of boursin cheese
1 pack of cherry tomatoes (cut in half)
4 cloves of minced garlic
3-4 tablespoons of olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Your choice of pasta

1. Preheat oven to 375

2.Place boursin cheese and cut cherry tomatoes in a 9x13 baking pan and drizzle with olive oil and add garlic, salt, and pepper.

3. While cheese and tomatoes are baking boil pasta and save 1/3-1/2 cup of the pasta water after boiling.

4. When baking is complete, add pasta and pasta water to baking sheet and mix.

It was delicious, fairly quick, and very easy. Could easily add some blackened shrimp to it if you want. We added 1/2 cup of pasta water and it was a tad bit too thin so maybe add 1/3 cup instead.

People who “don’t eat meat” during lent piss me off.

Imagine caring this much about the eating habits of other people during lent.

Catholics have got to take a step back and see how Lent, especially in Louisiana, is such a joke to people not in the religion. Catholics never eat better than during Lent around here.

As a Catholic, I really don’t give a shite about the opinions of people who aren’t Catholic in regards to Lenten eating habits. I’m sure most Catholics would agree with that stance

Holy moly; I hope this was for a whole box of pasta and not 2 servings.

I'm Baptist and don't observe Lent the same way Catholics do, but I certainly respect their beliefs and traditions. I dated a Catholic girl at LSU, and I didn't find her observance of Lent to be the least bit offensive or cumbersome for me.

Linguine with clams is absolutely one of my favorite dishes. With some french bread and a salad, it's close to a perfect meal.

Yeah I couldn’t stand those things but my mom cooked them and made us eat them. I used to just pour ketchup all over it to help hide the taste

Okay, I think I'll scratch this idea and if I make them, I'll use fresh salmon.

Food Wishes has a video using fresh and one using canned. The fresh was much more plain than the canned which had trinity and other things, perhaps due to the canned flavor.

That was in the weekly rotation when I was growing up and I loved them. Still do.

When I moved out and started cooking myself, I just knew that I could improve on what mom did so I added onions etc, different seasonings thinking I could fancy them up. Nothing I did was as good as what she made so I asked her to remind me of her recipe.

Here is what she did. Sometimes simpler is better.

Open a can of Double Q Salmon. Drain the liquid, mix in one beaten egg. Mash up with a fork. Form four patties, dredge in yellow cornmeal and fry in a skillet till golden.
